SUMMARY:Elm City String Quartet @ Winter Warmer
DESCRIPTION:Established in 2019\, the Elm City String Quartet was brought together by their passion for chamber music and a desire to share their love of quartet repertoire with their home town of Fredericton. With Victor Vivas and Mercedes Salazar on violin\, Mark Kleyn on viola\, and Emily Kennedy on cello\, the ECSQ’s exciting and broad programming pairs works by today’s composers alongside celebrated quartet classics. Their first performance was a memorable evening in a small art gallery that was so packed\, there were children sitting on the floor between their music stands. Since then\, the quartet has been captivating New Brunswick communities with their broad programming and charismatic playing.\nNamed after Fredericton’s long-standing moniker\, the individuals in the Elm City String Quartet come from a variety of musical backgrounds. Some perform in indie bands and compose multimedia works; some are renowned international pedagogues; but all are passionate chamber music players\, Sistema NB Teaching Artists\, and are active teachers in their community. The quartet\, being a versatile group\, has performed in art galleries\, churches\, and even small house concerts.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/7010747702371659/

SUMMARY:ECSQ Play Smith\, Schubert & Wijeratne (Saint John)
DESCRIPTION:Concert 3: ECSQ Play Smith\, Schubert & Wijeratne\nThe ECSQ starts off the new year with some fresh and rocking string quartets. “2 Pop Songs on Antique Poems” by Dinuk Wijerante\, winner of the 2016 JUNO for classical composition of the year\, is a collision of old and new. The beauty and meaning of vintage poems inspire loops\, grooves\, and catchy tunes\, with some recognizable quotes to our concert’s final piece.\n“The day will come when a single\, freshly observed carrot will start a revolution\,” is the inspiration for Gabriella Smith’s captivating work\, Carrot Revolution. The piece travels between flowing fiddle-inspired melodies and crunchy (perhaps like a carrot?) rhythms and percussion. The final piece of the concert\, Schubert’s Death and the Maiden\, is an absolute favourite in the repertoire. Power\, beauty and storytelling are woven with beautifully seamless structure.\nDate: February 1\, 7:30PM\nLocation: Saint John Arts Centre – 20 Peel Plaza\, Saint John\nTickets:\nAdults: $20 | Seniors: $15 | Students: $10 | Sistema Students & Faculty: Free\nAdvance tickets:\nhttps://www.tickettailor.com/events/elmcitystringquartet/997393\nProgram:\n2 Pop Songs on Antique Poems\, by Dinuk Wijeratne (b. 1978)\nI. SUMMARY:Alheri Bingi @ The Art Warehouse Cafe
DESCRIPTION:For the month of February\, we will be featuring the textile art of Alheri Bingi at The Art Warehouse Cafe. We will also be featuring a new piece by member artist Jadine Krist. These works will be on display through the month of February. \nYou can purchase these items at The Art Warehouse by scanning our self-serve QR codes placed beside each piece\, or by visiting our online store at:\nhttps://store.industrialparks.ca/ \nALHERI BINGI \nAlheri Bingi\, a distinguished textile batik artist hailing from Nigeria\, seamlessly weaves together her passion for art and her academic prowess\, holding an MBA from the prestigious University of New Brunswick. Born and raised in the vibrant city of Lagos\, Alheri’s artistic journey is a testament to her commitment to bridging cultures through the vibrant medium of textile batik. \nAlheri’s artistic exploration began at a young age\, inspired by the rich tapestry of Nigeria’s cultural heritage. Her early exposure to the kaleidoscope of colors\, patterns\, and traditions in Nigerian textiles laid the foundation for her future artistic endeavors. With an innate curiosity and a thirst for knowledge\, Alheri pursued higher education in business\, earning her Master of Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick in Canada. \nDuring her time in Canada\, Alheri’s artistic soul found a new rhythm. Surrounded by diverse cultures and influences\, she discovered the ancient art of batik\, a technique that involves applying wax to fabric and then dyeing it to create intricate patterns. Intrigued by the possibilities of merging traditional Nigerian aesthetics with the contemporary flair she encountered abroad\, Alheri delved into the world of textile batik with unwavering enthusiasm. \nHer artistic approach is a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. Alheri’s creations tell stories of her Nigerian roots while embracing the global perspectives she gained during her international studies. Each piece is a vibrant dialogue between the ancient craft of batik and the modern influences that have shaped her artistic vision. \nAlheri’s work has garnered attention both in Nigeria and abroad\, with exhibitions in galleries and art spaces that celebrate her unique fusion of cultures. Her art serves as a visual bridge\, connecting the intricate threads of her Nigerian heritage with the broader global tapestry. Alheri Bingi is not only an artist but a cultural ambassador\, using her creations to foster understanding and appreciation for the diverse beauty that the world has to offer. \nAs she continues to create\, innovate\, and share her passion with the world\, Alheri Bingi stands as a testament to the power of art to transcend borders and create connections that resonate on a profound level. \nJADINE KRIST \nJadine Krist is a biologist whose love for the outdoors has led her to explore some of Canada’s most beautiful and rugged landscapes. She moved to New Brunswick in 2021 to pursue her B. Ed.\, and currently teaches science and math at the Centre Scolaire Samuel de Champlain.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1079142813126522/

SUMMARY:Whitehorse | Fredericton Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:Canadian rock band Whitehorse is unafraid to mix genres\, regularly dipping into psychedelic Americana\, pop noir\, squalling blues rock\, and celestial folk. The partnership of Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet\, Whitehorse has pushed their eccentric musical identity into new realms and sounds for over a decade. With five consecutive JUNO Award nominations in three different genre categories\, and seven full-length records to their name\, it’s clear these rockers do a lot of different things\, and do them well.\nHusband-and-wife duo McClelland and Doucet were already individually established as singer-songwriters when they came together to form Whitehorse. Based in Hamilton\, Ontario\, both are masterful guitar players and multi-instrumentalists. On their new record I’m Not Crying\, You’re Crying\, Whitehorse venture deeper into classic country music touchstones than ever before\, a move that is both a homecoming and an evolution of their sound. The songs are playful yet profound\, masterfully simple and timeless.\n.\nThanks to our Performance Partners\, Music Runs Through It and Fredericton FROSTival!\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/612645520986180/

SUMMARY:ECSQ Play Smith\, Schubert & Wijeratne (Fredericton)
Power\, beauty and storytelling are woven with beautifully seamless structure.\nDate: February 2\, 7:30PM\nLocation: Wilmot United Church – 473 King St\, Fredericton\nTickets:\nAdults: $20 | Seniors: $15 | Students: $10 | Sistema Students & Faculty: Free\nAdvance tickets:\nhttps://www.tickettailor.com/events/elmcitystringquartet/997395\nProgram:\n2 Pop Songs on Antique Poems\, by Dinuk Wijeratne (b. 1978)\nI.
