SUMMARY:Living Roots- Brokeback Mountaineers (NB)/Almyr Jules (ON)/Charlie Weber (ON)
DESCRIPTION:Two touring acts\, and a local what a great way to find some new music\nCharlie Weber at 5 PM\nAlmyr Jules (trio) 6 PM\nBrokeback Mountaineers 7 PM\n$10 at the door/festival pass\nPasses here\nhttps://locarius.io/events/566/living-roots-music-festival-2024-festival-pass\nHAILING FROM THE VIBRANT CITY OF OTTAWA\, LOCATED IN THE HEART OF ONTARIO\, ALMYR JULES EMERGES AS A DYNAMIC AND PROMISING SINGER-SONGWRITER\, RAPIDLY ASCENDING THE LADDER OF RECOGNITION WITHIN HIS LOCAL MUSIC SCENE AND MAKING AN IMPACT ON THE GLOBAL STAGE. BORN DURING THE COLORFUL AND TRANSFORMATIVE ERA OF THE 1990S\, JULES POSSESSES AN UNWAVERING AFFECTION FOR THE SOULFUL SOUNDS OF 90S R&B AND THE INFECTIOUS FUNK MELODIES THAT DOMINATED THE MUSICAL LANDSCAPE OF THE 60S AND 70S. IT IS THIS UNIQUE BLEND OF INFLUENCES THAT FORMS THE VERY ESSENCE OF HIS MUSICAL IDENTITY – A DELIGHTFUL FUSION MARKED BY HIS VELVETY VOICE AND THE HEARTFELT RESONANCE OF HIS MELODIES.\nFor people who’ve met him London Ontario’s Charlie Weber is known for a few things: Emotionally honest lyricism\, being the loudest person in the room\, and never knowing when to leave a party. Since 2013\, Weber’s self-aware songwriting style has allowed him to carve pathways across the country playing upwards of 230 independently booked shows and released 1 LP “Old Habits (2018) with his follow up album “Gold Never Stays” (2023) on the way. Weber has graced festival stages\, dive bars\,living rooms while following in the footsteps of alt-troubadours like John K. Samson\, Tom Petty\, Frank Turner; using earnestness layered with humour to create music that is sincere while never taking himself too seriously. Ostentatious but vulnerable\, callous and compassionate\, Charlie Weber & the Glorious Failures seamlessly pair cynicism with hopefulness through their lens of punk rock laden Americana\, creating high energy rock n roll anthems that will touch your heart.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1454217552153535/

SUMMARY:Living Roots- Brent Mason Band/Rick Sparkes & The Enablers at Khrome
DESCRIPTION:These two prolific songwriters will bring their wonderful bands for a full evening of song.\nDoors at 6:30 PMRick Sparkes & the Enablers at 7 PMBrent Mason Band at 8:15 PM\nTickets $10 advanced/$15 at the door/Festival passhttps://locarius.io/…/living-roots-brent-mason-bandrick…\nFestival passeshttps://locarius.io/…/living-roots-music-festival-2024…\nBrent Mason rolled back into Saint John NB in the spring of ‘92\, after several years roaming North America in his best imitation of Jack Kerouac\, riding his thumb and working carnival midways in Canada and the US. With a fistful of songs born out of an ‘On The Road’ ethos\, and a burning desire\, Brent recorded his first ‘singer/songwriter’ album. A true early indie effort\, Head for the High Ground set a long and vital career in motion. Brent performs innovative original music with insightful powerful lyrical content. In Spring 2020\, Brent will release his 11th album\, ‘Fireflies’\, continuing a commitment to honest\, provocative and often beautiful songs that has earned him international respect. He’s been called “the David Adams Richards of New Brunswick songwriters” by Brent Staeben\, Artistic Director of The Harvest Jazz and Blue Festival.Brent has been nominated for and has won several East Coast Music Awards and Music New Brunswick awards including Folk Artist of the Year\, Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. He is also the youngest recipient of the Stompin’ Tom Award for his contributions to Atlantic Canadian music traditions. In winter 2020\, Brent went on his 3rd Home Routes tour in support of his record in British Columbia. It’s a testament to his significant songwriting and storytelling abilities that Brent has been chosen 3 times for this coveted\, juried circuit. Brent has also toured across Canada\, the UK and Beijing.Brent is regularly invited to local stages including Harvest Jazz and Blues\, Stanfest and many other festivals and music events in the region. In his hometown Saint John\, his Wednesday nights are legend\, hosting O’Leary’s Open Mic Night. 25+ years at this regular gig has earned him the moniker “Godfather of the Saint John Music Scene”. He’s co-written several recorded songs with award winning artist\, Jessica Rhaye\, and conducts songwriting workshops in schools throughout the province.Brent is also a published writer and filmmaker whose conceptual mini-series “Grave Concerns” was picked up by CBC and broadcast nationally. These artistic “crop rotation” techniques into other genres finds Brent working on stories and word craft that informs his writing across the board. After 10 albums and thousands of performances\, Brent is a unique performer\, combining humour\, spontaneity and intriguing\, compelling storytelling. Brent’s shows are entertaining and memorable; he takes audiences on a wild ride from tender sweetness and a deft touch with troubled characters\, wry observations on politics\, to spitting anger at the unjust forces that twist our world.\nOriginally from Kennebecasis Valley in New Brunswick\, Canada\, Rick moved to Prince Edward Island in 2003 where he has worked as a writer\, a musician\, and a teacher. Since 2017\, Sparkes has released four full length albums (three as Rick Sparkes + The Enablers and one under the pseudonym Hazen Halls) and one EP\, all of which blend elements of folk rock\, poetry\, and harmony in ways that are both innovative and familiar. As a writer\, his poetry\, creative non-fiction\, and short fiction have received recognition through the Island Literary Awards and the CBC Poetry Prize shortlist. As a songwriter\, Sparkes’ albums have received critical acclaim across Canada and have been nominated for a number of awards including the 2022 Group Recording of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards for his album Pleasure in the Pathless Woods.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/385591784400031/

SUMMARY:Living Roots- Soul Filter/Lilys Day/Joe Ross at Par 94
DESCRIPTION:“FOUR!!”\nWe are back for another year at Par 94 to rock the astro turf\nJoe Ross 8 PM\nLily’s Day 9:15 PM\nSoul Filter 10:30 PM\nEntrance\, $5 or festival pass\nPasses available here https://locarius.io/organizations/37\nSoul Filter is a four-piece\, award nominated Alt Rock-Pop band from Summerside\, PEI. Lead singer-songwriter Karen Penton weaves introspective silver linings through love and misery of the human condition with an often nostalgic 90s vibe inspired by artists such as Alanis Morisette\, Holly MaNarland\, Sheryl Crow & The Tragically Hip. The band’s latest singles “Quicksand Town” and “The City Knows” were both semi-finalists in the The International Songwriting Competition\, the former being produced and co-written by John Angus MacDonald of The Trews. In 2020 Soul Filter’s debut album “A Minor Conspiracy” garnered them a Music PEI nomination for Rock Recording of the Year. Band members include Karen Penton on lead vocals and acoustic rhythm guitar\, Marc Robichaud on drums\, Ronnie Arsenault on bass & Mike Penton on electric guitar.\nLilys Day is a rock/pop rock band from Saint John\, NB. They have been playing lots of shows over the past year and are turning heads with their powerful live performance. Led by a very strong female vocal. And guitar driven songs.\nIt may have been 20 years since Fredericton musician Joe Ross last entered a recording studio but as his latest single clearly demonstrates\, Ross hasn’t missed a beat. Where the Wild Resides is full of playful pop energy\, propelled by the laidback momentum of a lazy summer’s afternoon drive.\n“This is my first proper recording since 2003. Long dead in music years\,” said Ross. “It was tracked\, mixed\, and mastered at Shiftwork Studios by Dylan Ward. I borrowed his Marian bandmate Stefan Westner to play drums. Without us ever playing together before\, he nailed the track in a couple of takes.”\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/3555927501387616/

SUMMARY:Eddy Currents LIVE @ Five & Dime
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to have Eddy Currents make his Five & Dime debut on his first-ever Atlantic Canadian tour!\nShow time: 9pm.Cover: PWYC\n—-About Eddy:https://eddycurrents.net/home\nA lifelong musical journey begins when you grow up in a house filled with classical music and the Rolling Stones. Playing an array of instruments from an early age\, a new melody or lyric was always waiting to be scribbled down at a moment’s notice. Several years later and following a decade on the road\, various colorful tales of ordinary lives had been amassed. This epoch would then culminate in the retreat to a Toronto studio where these narratives could be brought to life. Armed with eight tunes surrounded by an air of melancholy\, reflection and hope\, this collection of songs would introduce the original musicality of Eddy Currents to the world.\nInfluenced heavily by the writings of Warren Zevon\, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Peart\, his eponymous debut album was released in 2020. Each of the album’s songs are somewhat reflective of the city in which they were written; from Halifax to Manhattan to Munich. Composed primarily on the piano\, the album weaves between genres throughout. The sounds of Folk\, Celtic\, Rock and Synth-Pop can be found\, where the only constant in the arrangement is the plangent\, lead baritone vocal that narrates these distinctly human accounts.\nThe year 2021 saw the release of two singles\, Crossroad and The Breakline\, both of which continued to build upon the singer-songwriter styling introduced on the debut album and gained him considerable momentum on various Indie Folk playlists. In 2023\, Eddy Currents music was streamed in 140 countries on Spotify alone\, assisted by the release of the first six tracks off of his upcoming album\, Electric Minds. His energetic solo live sets have been engaging audiences all over North America for the past 2 years\, with new dates being consistently added. So\, turn up your amps and stay tuned…\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/966559191732839/

In 2019\, they were awarded Stingray Music Rising Star at the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival and Band of the Year at the Saint John Music Awards. In 2023\, MMW released their first studio album titled\, “Sunday Morning Coffee”\, garnished with the extra color of international musicians who have performed with Sting\, The Rolling Stones\, Alicia Keys\, Steve Vai and many others. This exciting instrumental trio delivers melodic musical fusion\, bass solos\, guitar wizardry\, and a drum clinic performance.\n\n\nAward-winning singer-songwriter Catherine Kennedy invites you to join her on the long way home. Any story worth telling deserves the time it takes to travel along the nostalgic route\, and Catherine’s soulful lyrics and bluesy tones will transport you directly there.\n\nIn 2018\, Catherine released her solo EP Fifty-Fifty Chance and toured her music throughout the East Coast at festivals such as Area 506\, Folly Fest\, Paddlefest\, and Shivering Songs. 2022 saw the release of her self-titled debut album for which she\, along with her band\, won Breakthrough Artist of the Year from the Music New Brunswick Awards\, and earned two further nominations for Recording of the Year and Song of the Year.\n\nOne music-lover praised how “the beautiful quality and range of Catherine’s voice pairs perfectly with her gift of storytelling. Catherine’s music makes you feel part of something bigger. Her songs always seem as though they’re written for you.”\nSo come roam along the winding road of your story and join Catherine on the long way home.\n\n\nAs a musician Connor Fox comes armed with a lot of tools in his belt–yes\, he has the ability to shred with the best of them\, but when needed\, he can maturely play in the moment too\, giving whatever is required of him.\nHis seasoned tastes and sense of subtlety betray someone of only 23 years of age\, but Connor comes across as wise\, both in his demeanor and his guitar playing\, which he has been doing since he was old enough to hold one. Stylistically\, whether it’s capturing the fire and passion of a Stevie Ray Vaughan solo or the nuanced\, creative impulses of Jerry Garcia\, his two primary influences\, Connor is a force.\n—\nAccessibility\nHaven Music Hall is a street-level small music venue without fixed seating. SUMMARY:Jazz on Wolastoq- Fabio Kutnowski Trio/Cloud Cats/Kyla Tilley
DESCRIPTION:A trio of new to us acts\, one evening. These are trained musicians looking to play for you. It will be a fantastic mix of music\nKayla Tilley at 7 PM\nCloud Cats at 8 PM\nFabio Kutnowski Trio & Friends at 9 PM\nEntry- $10 adv/$15 door/festival pass\nhttps://locarius.io/events/1041/jazz-on-wolastoq-fabio-kutnowski-triocloud-catskyla-tilley\nPasses here:\nhttps://locarius.io/events/914/jazz-on-wolastoq-2024-early-bird\nBassist\, composer/arranger and bandleader\, Fabio Kutnowski\, delivers a unique sound with influences from modern RnB\, Motown and jazz fusion. Raised in Fredericton\, Fabio’s musical journey began with piano and cello. As the son of two classical musicians\, Fabio’s musical view was centred around the classical repertoire until he started learning electric bass with his teacher\, Jason Flores\, and guitar on his own. It was through bass and guitar that Fabio delved into Motown and RnB music which eventually led him to jazz. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree with a jazz concentration at Humber College in Toronto under Jon Maharaj. Joining Fabio is Liam Bunin on drums and fellow classmate Minh Hoang on keys.\n• Liam Bunin – Drums • Minh Hoang – Piano • Fabio Kutnowski – Upright & Electric Bass\nCloud Cats is the combined sounds of violinist/vocalist Jasmine Michel\, drummer/percussionist Liam Bunin\, bassist Fabio Kutnowski & keyboardist Minh Hoang. With influences of jazz\, classical and global folk\, their musical selections will carry listeners softly\, cloud-like\, through an eclectic sonic landscape.\nKyla Tilley is a Canadian singer-songwriter known for her emotionally turbulent live performances\, her gymnastic guitar playing\, and her fabulous shoe collection.\nUsing whatever words she likes\, Kyla constructs tales true and tall of fantastic exploits\, mundane tasks\, and moderate misadventure\, delivered through a mix of vocal fusillades\, chaotic finger-picking\, and kaleidoscopic rhythms\, punctuated with scintillating melodies and moments of serenity. Call it prog-folk.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/941232841076082/

SUMMARY:Ryan Naismith LIVE at the Five & Dime
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to have Ryan Naismith make his ‘Dime debut! 😎\nShowtime: 9PM\nCover: PWYC\n——–\nMore about Ryan\nhttps://ryannaismithmusic.com/home\nThe spark ignited in a small\, dark Nashville’s Music Row bar.\nRyan was just enjoying a beer and some conversation with the bartender\, which led to a slightly out of tune guitar being pulled off the wall and handed over to Ryan. That started an impromptu writers round\, the guitar being passed around the circle. Ryan played Big City Small Town.\nLater that afternoon\, the echoes of Ryan’s song still ringing through his head\, one of the musicians asked Ryan to play it for the crowd.\nRyan conquered his nerves\, stepped in front of 40 or so people and began to play.\nSince that day\, Ryan has continued writing songs\, performing them in barrooms\, music clubs\, breweries and festivals. He has recorded and released music onto all streaming platforms. At his live shows\, Ryan delivers meaningful lyrics and driving acoustic guitar with his heart on his sleeve.\nHis music and writing have reminded listeners of songwriters like Chris Knight\, Steve Earle and Ray Lamontagne\, combining poetic phrasing with stark realism that holds a listener in the moment.\nBased in London\, Ont.\, Ryan is ever in pursuit of the perfect song\, that musical story that takes a listener on an emotional journey. His fans listen with intention\, as he delivers songs that touch on topics that make for meaningful conversation.\nRyan travels and tours Ontario and beyond\, either solo or with his band\, bringing energy and honesty to every stage.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/329848080175330/
