SUMMARY:IAN THOMAS: Full Band Tour | SAINT JOHN
DESCRIPTION:Call: (506) 674-4100\nBook online: https://bit.ly/3QXd4XS\nIAN THOMAS … NOT GONE YET! Full Band Tour\nIan Thomas is “the complete entertainment experience!” He is a film-composer with 22 feature films to his credit; an author; an actor\, much sought after as a voice-over artist and recognized for roles such as Dougie Franklin on the Red Green Show… and\, of course\, a Juno-award-winning Singer-Songwriter whose songs helped form the bedrock of the Canadian musical landscape\, a contribution recognized by SOCAN when Ian was honoured with a National Achievement Award for Songwriting.\nIan Thomas first garnered major radio airplay in1973 with the top-40 single Painted Ladies\, followed by a string of hits throughout the 70s and 80s\, and on into the 90s with his band The Boomers. Whether performed by him or covered by artists including Santana\, Chicago\, Manfred Mann\, America\, Bon Jovi and Bette Midler\, Ian’s many hits continually achieved heavy rotation on radio across Canada and around the world … recordings such as Come The Sun\, Long Long Way\, Right Before Your Eyes\, Coming Home\, Pilot\, Hold On\, Time Is The Keeper\, I Still Want To Hold You\, The Runner\, Levity\, Back To Square One\, Love Ya Too Much\, You Gotta Know\, One Little Word\, Dirty Love\, To Comfort You\, and of course\, Painted Ladies.\nIn the new millennium\, Ian joined fellow singer-songwriters Murray McLauchlan\, Marc Jordan and Cindy Church to form Lunch At Allen’s\, touring coast to coast for the past two decades\, and now with five albums to their credit.\nOf his art\, Ian says: “The song remains the most satisfying creative experience for me. Songs are interactive and\, with over 50 years of writing\, I have spent many hours with each one and they with me. When I listen to one of my old albums\, I remember where I was and the people I made them with\, some living\, some now dead. I think about who I am\, who I used to be\, and who I thought I was. These albums are like flags stuck in the road behind me that wind back\, into the past\, almost out of view.”\nIan Thomas\, with his stellar 4-piece band\, brings past to present recreating the original sound of all the hits …70s\, 80s\, 90s and beyond. SUMMARY:Valmy & Sarah McInnis LIVE in Wolfville
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a beautiful evening of music at the Manning Memorial Chapel in Wolfville\, NS.\n.\n.\nDoors open 6:30PM\, with the show starting at 7PM.\nThere will be two sets of music with a break in between.\n$16 advance // $20 door\nTickets at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/valmy-sarah-mcinnis-live-at-manning-memorial-chapel-tickets-875354889037?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl\n.\n.\n.\nScroll down to read more:\nValmy is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who’s been following the ocean and making home on the East Coast. Exploring the complexities of relationship\, loss\, and healing\, she uses her folk-influenced music to tell stories about loving and stumbling your way through the dark. Now based in St. John’s\, Newfoundland\, Valmy creates and performs from a place of honesty and wonder by weaving melodic swells and atmospheric harmonies with her contemplative writing. Valmy independently released her debut full-length album\, ‘The In Between’\, in September 2023. This collection of songs\, half which were written during her time living in Wolfville\, was given new life through original arrangements\, and received warmly by listeners. Valmy received MusicNL 2023 nominations for Rising Star and Folk Artist of the Year\, is an ECMA 2024 nominee\, and is looking forward to connecting with Maritime audiences during her upcoming Autumn 2024 tour. The opportunity to return to the Valley where her songwriting voice was nurtured\, to share the stage with dear friend and musical companion\, Sarah McInnis\, is the highlight of her spring.\nhttps://valmymusic.com\nhttps://valmy.bandcamp.com\nSarah McInnis\nSinger/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sarah McInnis\, of Peterborough\, Ontario\, is a storyteller\, writing meaningful\, personal\, and relatable lyrics through which audience members can connect. Sarah’s songs come from having to travel to the raw\, twisted centers of insecurity\, vulnerability\, shame\, and grief\, to hold them gently\, illuminate\, forgive\, and thank them. With warm vocals and guitar in hand\, Sarah has the ability to change the feeling in the room\, giving listener’s honest\, true\, and personal stories that remind them that they are not alone in the serious\, silly\, and serendipitous parts of life. In 2023\, six years after her debut EP\, Farmer\, Coal Miner\, Sarah released Threads\, 8 original songs based on the stories of 8 Atlantic Canadians – 4 at end-of-life\, 4 who have lost loved ones. The album features a host of talented Atlantic-based artists and is accompanied by a short documentary that saw Sarah travelling the Atlantic provinces to gather stories of love and heartbreak. Through this project Sarah shows that in life and death\, music connects us all.\nhttps://sarahmcinnis.com\nhttps://sarahmcinnis.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/964106898040261/

SUMMARY:Nico Paulo & Band with Len O'Neill
DESCRIPTION:Come on out to Haven Music Hall on Thursday May 9 for an evening with Nico Paulo & Band\, featuring special guest Len O’Neill!\nAdvance $20+tax\nDoor $25+tax\nall-ages!\nDoors 7pm\, show 8pm\nNico Paulo is a Portuguese/Canadian songwriter\, performer\, and visual artist. She moved to Canada in 2014 to pursue her career\, originally setting down roots in the vibrant Toronto arts community\, and eventually moved east to become an essential part of Newfoundland’s celebrated music scene. Paulo’s highly anticipated\, self-titled debut LP\, which arrived in spring 2023\, is a melodically dynamic\, heart-baring collection that finds her exploring the interconnected nature of relationships and the flow of time in lush\, sophisticated pop arrangements. The album’s textures come courtesy of production by Joshua Van Tassel (Villages\, Fortunate Ones) and Tim Baker (Hey Rosetta!).\nPaulo released her debut single\, the wistful “Please Don’t Forget\,” in 2019. Her debut EP\, Wave Call\, arrived in 2020\, featuring contributions from musicians Bravo Kilo\, Evan J Cartwright\, Kwame Appiah-Kubi\, and Tim Baker\, with production and engineering handled by David Gavan Baxter. She toured the EP in Europe in 2020\, making stops in Portugal\, the UK\, Ireland\, France\, and Germany. Her latest releases—the Live at First Light EP recorded for the Lawnya Vawnya Artist Residency and a cover of José Afonso’s Portuguese folk song “O Cavaleiro e o Anjo”—were both recorded in Paulo’s adopted hometown of St. John’s\, and include appearances by local musicians Tim Baker\, Adam Hogan\, Steve Maloney\, and Mary B. Waldram.\nLen O’Neill\, a singer-songwriter from St. John’s\, Newfoundland\, began his musical journey in the local pub and bar scene\, drawing inspiration from Canadian indie rock pioneers like Wintersleep and Hey Rosetta. As the frontman of the award-winning band Green & Gold\, he navigated numerous east coast tours and released two albums before shifting his focus to roots and acoustic music during his time at Fred’s Records. Influenced by a diverse range of artists spanning classic rock legends to poetic songwriters\, Len crafts introspective\, lyric-driven compositions exploring themes of ambition\, sorrow\, and personal growth.\nHis upcoming solo album\, “Out Of View\,” slated for release in April 2024\, showcases a dynamic evolution in his sound\, marked by poignant storytelling and vulnerability. Len’s musical journey is deeply intertwined with the vibrant music community of St. John’s\, where the intrinsic value of music is revered. With a vision to tour extensively and create a body of work reflective of his poetic sensibilities\, Len remains committed to expressing his evolving narrative through music\, always eager to engage with captivating stories across various artistic mediums.\n—–\nAccessibility\nHaven Music Hall is a street-level small music venue without fixed seating. The band has a vast range of influences from pop to blues that contributes to their own unique sound which could be described as retro with a modern generational twist.\nOver the last year The Last Call has had lots of events across New Brunswick\, such as headlining the Saint John Moonlight Bazaar and opening for Classified at the UNB Fredericton Kick Off Concert.\nThe Last Call are currently in the midst of recording and releasing their debut first single which will be available in the near future!\nAbout Austin Eatman\nHailing from the port city of Saint John\, NB\, Canada\, Austin Eatman brings a distinct East Coast Alt-Folk style and melodic sound to his eclectic performances. \nIn 2017\, he recorded a song for every day in January\, culminating in his YouTube series (Song a Day Sessions). \nDedicating his life to this musical endeavour\, he joined with Mike Belyea to form “The Sound Investments”\, a folk duo who still play regularly. \nLater he formed a full band “The Austin Eatman Band”\, releasing their debut EP “Broken Radio” in early 2020. \nUnable to tour the EP\, Austin kept busy\, collaborating with local electronic artist and producer “FWLR”\, releasing songs “Lo-fi Beats To Realize You’re An A**hole To” (With FWLR\, and Colin Ferris of “Sheik”) as well as “Lads Me Boys” under the name Brethren of The Coast (with FWLR and Jamie Comeau) \nHe has gained notoriety performing at Paddlefest in St. Andrew’s\, Follyfest in Gagetown and in 2022\, opening up for Whitehorse at the 506 Container Village. \nCurrently he focuses on recording a new full-length album set to release sometime this year with his band\, and playing as often as he can.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/837979731457833/

SUMMARY:Boy Golden with guests Fontine Live at Xeroz Arcade/Bar
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday May 14th – Doors at 7pm – Show 8pm – Tickets: $20 +Tax/Fees\nBoy Golden:\nEverything becomes fluid when you can pass through time and space like a ghost\, a story\, a melody. Boy Golden manifests all three on For Jimmy.\nWhen listening to his music\, it feels easy to dissolve into the ether. Everything flows. From classic country to psych-folk\, Alternative to roadhouse pop to Appalaichan bluegrass\, Boy Golden’s music is easy\, breezy\, warm and gritty. And don’t it just feel good to listen to it.\nSince releasing his debut album\, Church of Better Daze\, in 2021\, he’s played every summer festival on your list\, produced X albums with friends\, released a dozen videos\, curated and directed an art show and music video for “KD & Lunchmeat”\, the Seth-Rogenesque hit single that charted to #1 on Alternative Radio\, and toured more than 60 venues across North America with The Sheepdogs.\nIntrospective and vulnerable\, traditional and queer\, hard-headed and sensual\, Boy Golden’s everyman-aesthetic can appeal to all of us. This ability lies in his songwriting: the songs your friends tell you about\, the stories you hear from your neighbours\, your community. He’s comfortable both in the spotlight and just outside it\, sharing the moments with other artists\, lifting others up along with him. He’s a genuine student of Townes Van Zandt and Willie Nelson as much as Dwight Yoakam and Stevie Ray Vaughan . Plus his C.O.B.D philosophy\, “You can blaze and still get paid” might help us all to blur borders and old definitions of genres we thought we knew\, like Steve Lacy or Justin Vernon do for Pop music.\nBoy Golden is able to maintain his own unique blend of Boy Golden using whatever frame of mind he’s in to fit us into this time. We’re here right now\nFontine:\nA hush sweeps across Turtle Island. Birds flock to perch on towering maples and the waving prairie grasses still. There is a name upon the tongue of every creature from the elk to the shrew. FONTINE. A gust of wind blows open the shutters of every home and young and old kneel in reverence to the dawn of a new era. FONTINE. Queen of the road\, King of the song\, FONTINE is here with a brand new EP.\nCo-produced with Kris Ulrich and mixed by Boy Golden\, the Yarrow Lover EP is set to be released in 2023. Taking inspiration from her Nehiyaw Iskwew roots\, the natural surroundings of her prairie home\, and her musical surroundings in Winnipeg\, the EP presents as a beautiful introduction to a powerhouse songwriter and vocalist.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1086090616000894/

SUMMARY:Garrett Mason @ Yip Cider
DESCRIPTION:https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/garrett-mason-at-yip-cider-tickets-838534608587?aff=oddtdtcreator\nGarrett Mason is a true bluesman at heart. He was raised in Truro\, Nova Scotia by his mother Pam\, and father\, veteran Canadian Bluesman Dutch Mason. His quest to become a blues musician started at a very early age; being surrounded by blues music\, Garrett’s favorite tapes at 3 years old were Canned Heat and Buddy Rich. What really sealed the deal for Garrett to become a blues guitarist came after watching a video of Stevie Ray Vaughn “Live At the El Mocambo” – he was hooked.\nHis dad\, Dutch Mason\, stopped playing guitar before Garrett was born due to crippling arthritis in his hands. Although he was not able to teach his son to play\, he has certainly been able to teach Garrett the structure of the Blues and to influence him about the resulting sound. Surrounded by his father’s peers\, Garrett has had the benefit of hearing and learning from a wide variety of musical talent. The late Rick Jeffery was a great inspiration to Garrett; they would talk and play for hours together. Rick once said “Garrett is the only guitar player I know that can play Albert Collins’ style down to a T”. The combination of his father’s advice\, Jeffery’sguidance and his own natural talents provide that special brew for Garrett to become the musical influence he is destined to be.\nGarrett would be the first to tell you that riding the coat tails of others won’t take you very far in this business\, but striving to be truly original is the secret to longevity and lasting success. Garrett launched his debut CD I’m Just a Man at the 2004 Harvest Jazz and Blues festival in Fredericton\, New Brunswick to a sold out crowd.\nGarrett’s original talent was awarded in 2005 when he received a Juno for Best Blues Album.\nGarrett’s band released their sophomore album Love and Sound in July 2008 which was nominated for a Juno Award. The album won Blues Artist/Group Recording of the Year at the 2009 Music Nova Scotia and Industry Awards.\nGarrett has been primarily solo for the last decade. His style has shifted from Straight Jump blues and Chicago style\, to a more personal\, unique genre of his own creation. The man is a force to be reckoned with.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/412165981542381/

Our songwriter was the recipient of the 2023 JL Music Composer Award. \nThe band has performed at over 40 festivals/events/venues throughout New Brunswick including in Bathurst\, Miramichi\, Moncton\, Sussex\, Gagetown\, Fredericton\, Saint John and Saint Andrews. Our original rock music is heavily influenced by “classic rock” and our songs have charted in the UK\, France\, Germany\, Spain\, South Africa\, Australia and the US and Canada. We have released 3 full length studio albums plus a live album and a fourth studio album is being released on June 5.\nJosh Ritchie is a born performer. Ever since he could stand he’s had a guitar in his hands and songs in his bones. Now a captivating performer\, Ritchie commands the stage with the confidence of a seasoned front man. From the minute the kid walks on stage it’s obvious he was meant to be there\, serving audiences larger-than-life\, stadium-rock energy at every show.\n Ritchie describes himself as an “impressionist singer-songwriter\,” likening the principles of his craft to those of the impressionist painters of the19th century. He doesn’t spoon-feed you a linear story but rather makes an impression of a feeling or a memory\, creating a unique connection with each and every listener. His music is both ambitious\, bold and big enough to fill a whole room but at the same time technical and refined when you take a closer look.\n As a young and ambitious person of colour\, Ritchie quickly became fascinated with the relationship between art and activism. Growing up\, he was influenced by bands and artists that weren’t afraid to make a statement with their art and he strives to do the same himself. In 2021 Ritchie put this into practice releasing a self-titled EP about his experiences growing up BIPOC in rural Ontario.\n His second studio album Love at the End of the World\, which further explored these themes\, had a sold out launch event at Lee’s Palace in Toronto and went on to obtain attention throughout North America through such outlets as The CBC\, Cashbox Radio\, Canadian Beats\, Record World International\, Volatile Weekly and many more.\nNoelle Frances is a folk singer-songwriter\, harmonizer\, creative collaborator currently living in Deshkan Ziibi/ London ON.\nInspired by the storytelling that exists in the diverse genre of folk music Noelle writes in a way that is simple\, honest and quick to connect to. Noelle is a witty and charismatic performer who draws in the audience with her joy. She meshes a lighthearted presence and stage banter with emotionally charged\, uplifting and sometimes haunting songs. Lyrically she taps into the angst and beauty of life. Each song has a soul and largely speaks to the resiliency of human beings.\nNoelle is part of a self managed\, internationally touring band “The Pairs” and also performs as a solo act. Noelle has opened for acts like Irish Mythen\, Kim Churchill\, Kellie Loder\, Jim Bryson\, and The Brown Hawking Stanley Trio. With The Pairs Noelle has had the opportunity to play many iconic folk festivals like Mariposa\, Summerfolk\, Hillside\, Calgary Folk Fest\, Rocky Mountain Folks Fest\, and many more!\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1099883661254096/
