Electronic sound\, industrial landscapes and digital projection\, juxtaposed with Wolastoq songs and visual motifs of the spiritual and natural world\, create the Indigenous cosmology within which the story takes place. Pisuwin pushes us to confront our greed and alienation\, while inspiring us to take a different path; one of connection\, community\, and wholeness.\nCo-created by Nipahtuwet Naka Wespahtuwet Possesom\, Sitansisk Wolastoqiyik and Artistic Director Igor Dobrovolskiy\, Pisuwin is set to the soaring music of multi-award winning composer\, singer and song writer Jeremy Dutcher\, Neqotkuk Wolasoqiyik with 6 more indigenous creators/artists including Métis dancer Jera Wolfe dancing the lead role. The piece is a favourite classic\, and a great way to refresh our quartet sound after a summer break. We continue with “Plan & Elevation” by Pulitzer Award winning composer Caroline Shaw\, who is one of top movers and shakers in the modern quartet writing scene. We close the concert with Bedřich Smetana’s Quartet 1\, “From my Life\,” a musical memoir written while the composer’s hearing was rapidly deteriorating.

But to do it with that smile of the ages\, that evidence of authentic\, unbridled delight\, is an irresistible invitation to feel his music as deeply as he does. “The joy\, ” he says\, “is always there because I’m chasing it through music. Seeing the surprise in peoples’ eyes is worth living and working for… I can’t help but play to the people with all my heart\, which is overflowing with joy of being in that moment that I’ve worked all my life for. And here it is!”\nAlthough his expression is instrumental\, he comes to the guitar much more like a vocalist\, positively singing melodies through the strings. He inhabits the tunes he performs\, delivering every nuance and turn of phrase. His own songs are also illuminated always with lyrical melodies that go right to the heart\, such as his beautiful ode to his daughter\, “Angelina\,” or his great “story without words\,” “Lewis & Clark.” That they resonate so deeply without words makes sense\, as words only go so far. But music\, coming from a genuine and joyful source\, can go so much farther. There was only one answer he could imagine\, “Nobody.” Testing his hypothesis\, Stone polled friends\, family and fellow musicians how they felt about Petty. The result was always the same. Everyone loves Tom Petty.\nOne of these fellow musicians just happened to be Tom Petty’s doppelganger\, guitarist and lead vocalist Jonathan Guthrie. Guthrie was an avid fan and had always fantasized about being a Heartbreaker. As two seasoned musicians and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers fans\, there was really only one thing for them to do – form a Tom Petty tribute band.\nIt wasn’t hard for Stone and Guthrie to find skilled musicians excited about playing in a Tom Petty tribute band. Drummer Steve Lucas\, formerly of Feverdog and a bandmate of Stone’s local band\, Theatrix\, quickly signed on. Lucas brought with him his M-80’s band mate Glenn Freeman. Freeman\, who boasts of seeing multiple Tom Petty concerts in the 80s\, brought an instrumental cornucopia to the group with keyboards\, harmonica\, guitar and backing vocals. Lead guitarist Curt Granger rounded out the lineup. With 30+ years experience in Birmingham’s local music scene\, Granger has played in such circuit bands as Pyrate\, Scream Sophie\, and his own solo project\, as well as creating a line of world-renowned boutique guitar amplifiers.\nThe new Tom Petty tribute band rehearsed with one focus – to recreate the music of Tom Petty with precision\, attention to detail\, and a reverent respect. Parts were studied in great detail\, down to inflections in the very way each word of every lyric was sung.\nPerforming locally in the first year\, it didn’t take long for the band to be noticed. Word spread quickly\, which led to more shows outside the band’s home state\, which led to more word of mouth and exposure. Featuring songs and stories from his first album\, the ‘Legendary Red Album\,’ to his latest recording. ‘Thru The Years’ show is laced with songs from his lifelong experiences.\nSpecial guest – rising star Saint John native Kylie Fox. \nKylie Fox is a Canadian singer songwriter\, touring and recording artist. She fuses folk storytelling with vintage elements of jazz and alternative rock. With influences like Kate Bush\, Sharon Van Etten\, and Joni Mitchell\, her music is ethereal\, lush and real. \nCurrently based in Fredericton\, NB\, Fox exudes fun and love for her art and for storytelling\, which is evident on “Confetti” (April 2023)\, the lead single from her second studio album. “It’s a bright and brooding alternative rock ballad\, which speaks to the nostalgia of novelty\,” explains Fox. “I was thinking about how the newness of romance can fall and simply be swept away — like confetti.”.
