Not since 2012’s Come Home to Mama has a Martha Wainwright record been so full of original written material. Wainwright’s fifth studio album follows recent years of loneliness and clarity in search of optimism and joy.\nWainwright wrote the first song—and what would become the title track— of the record a few years ago. It was a very dark time\, she says\, but the positivity and luminosity of “Love Will Be Reborn” signalled what was to come. The song simply poured out of her.\nMuch of Wainwright’s songwriting since 2016’s Goodnight City felt too raw. “There were several years where I picked up the guitar\, and I was so\, so sad and depressing. I would just put it down because I was terrible.” Before writing it out\, or writing through it for catharsis\, Wainwright had to live it. Album opener “Middle of the Lake” reinforces Wainwright’s path forward as she sings over voltaic chords and percussion\, “I sing my songs of love and pain / Winds of change or simply singing\, I’m singing in the rain.” Her work never shies away from an existential throbbing wound. “There are a couple major subjects on the record. From what I can tell\, there’s really dark and then light\,” she says\,” It really is reflective of a very difficult period of divorce. Then\, after that\, it’s meeting somebody new and amazing. Our entrance exterior is a 34″ wide door that has a small lip/step up from the street. Once inside\, our entrance vestibule has three steps up into the space with an interior entrance opening of 70″. We have two single-use washrooms with toilets. It is no longer required to wear a mask at our live shows. However\, if wearing a mask makes you feel more comfortable in our space\, we encourage that and will support you in your decision!\nTicket Refund Policy:\nTicket buyers can request a refund (up to 48 hours before performance) with one exception\, the payment processor will withhold a 10% processing fee. Refunds will be issued to the original method of payment used at time of purchase. If an event is rescheduled or canceled ticket buyers will be notified with options including a refund.\nIf you require a refund option within 48 hours of the event we can offer you credit to a future show.\nAccessibility & safety notes:\n-The Cap record store is accessible during daytime hours through the Queen Street entrance and the Tannery. Ground floor washrooms can be accessed in this space. There is one step to access the Sea Can. Events at night in the Cap are accessible through the Tannery – there are not steps or stairs to enter the Cap. The Wilser’s Room & Nest Patios require climbing a full set of stairs. Wilser’s Room washrooms require climbing an additional 6 stairs.\n– Events in the Tannery parking lot are gated\, accessible at ground level\, and are typically accessible to all ages (determined per event). Washrooms can be accessed through the fire exit of the CAP (right side of the building facing King street)\, through the King street entrance of Klub Krome. There are also occasions in which porta potties are present at these events\, located close to the performance area.\n– If you use a wheelchair or walking aid\, please e-mail thecaprecordstore@gmail.com the day before the show so we can prepare adequate space for you.\n– Washrooms are gender inclusive (femme/non-binary and masculine/non-binary). Patrons are encouraged to use whichever washroom they feel most comfortable in\, and will have the support of our staff in using the washroom of their choosing.\n– The Cap Safer Spaces policy is in place for the duration of the event.
