SUMMARY:Jazz on Wolastoq- Fabio Kutnowski Trio/Cloud Cats/Kyla Tilley
DESCRIPTION:A trio of new to us acts\, one evening. These are trained musicians looking to play for you. It will be a fantastic mix of music\nKayla Tilley at 7 PM\nCloud Cats at 8 PM\nFabio Kutnowski Trio & Friends at 9 PM\nEntry- $10 adv/$15 door/festival pass\nhttps://locarius.io/events/1041/jazz-on-wolastoq-fabio-kutnowski-triocloud-catskyla-tilley\nPasses here:\nhttps://locarius.io/events/914/jazz-on-wolastoq-2024-early-bird\nBassist\, composer/arranger and bandleader\, Fabio Kutnowski\, delivers a unique sound with influences from modern RnB\, Motown and jazz fusion. Raised in Fredericton\, Fabio’s musical journey began with piano and cello. As the son of two classical musicians\, Fabio’s musical view was centred around the classical repertoire until he started learning electric bass with his teacher\, Jason Flores\, and guitar on his own. It was through bass and guitar that Fabio delved into Motown and RnB music which eventually led him to jazz. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree with a jazz concentration at Humber College in Toronto under Jon Maharaj. Joining Fabio is Liam Bunin on drums and fellow classmate Minh Hoang on keys.\n• Liam Bunin – Drums • Minh Hoang – Piano • Fabio Kutnowski – Upright & Electric Bass\nCloud Cats is the combined sounds of violinist/vocalist Jasmine Michel\, drummer/percussionist Liam Bunin\, bassist Fabio Kutnowski & keyboardist Minh Hoang. With influences of jazz\, classical and global folk\, their musical selections will carry listeners softly\, cloud-like\, through an eclectic sonic landscape.\nKyla Tilley is a Canadian singer-songwriter known for her emotionally turbulent live performances\, her gymnastic guitar playing\, and her fabulous shoe collection.\nUsing whatever words she likes\, Kyla constructs tales true and tall of fantastic exploits\, mundane tasks\, and moderate misadventure\, delivered through a mix of vocal fusillades\, chaotic finger-picking\, and kaleidoscopic rhythms\, punctuated with scintillating melodies and moments of serenity. Call it prog-folk.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/941232841076082/

SUMMARY:Jazz by the Sea
DESCRIPTION:Since 2022\, Baltimore bass clarinetist Todd Marcus and Toronto clarinetist Virginia MacDonald have been performing and touring together across the United States and Canada with their quintet. Their work together presents a lush ensemble that showcases the range of beauty and power by the clarinet in a modern jazz context\, with repertoire comprised of original compositions by both bandleaders. They have performed at jazz festivals and prominent venues internationally and will release their debut album as co-leaders in 2025.\nDue technical challenges and volume issues\, most musicians that utilize both bass and Bb clarinets tend to also double on saxophone and avoid using clarinets for more intense straight-ahead jazz. While the clarinet has a rich history in traditional New Orleans and Dixieland music\, swing era big band contexts\, and avant-garde free playing\, it is significantly underutilized in modern straight-ahead jazz.\nMarcus and MacDonald have both established a prominence and international reputation on their respective instruments in the modern jazz realm with their unique solo and compositional voices. Their musical partnership showcases the versatility of the bass clarinet and clarinet\, and captures audiences with a new and unique musical experience.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/8126268044050543/

SUMMARY:jazz on Wolastoq- Magnus Labillois/Charlotte Leung
DESCRIPTION:We have a beautiful afternoon planned at the Flower show\nCharlotte Leung at 5 PM\nMagnus Labillois at 6 PM\n$10 suggested donation at the door/festival pass\nPasses available here:\nhttps://locarius.io/events/914/jazz-on-wolastoq-2024-early-bird\nCharlotte Leung\nGuzheng Performer \nCharlotte Leung is an enthusiastic guzheng player who brings a heartfelt passion to every performance. With a deep-rooted love for the guzheng\, Charlotte has spent years learning and exploring the rich musical traditions of this ancient Chinese instrument.\nThe guzheng\, also known as the Chinese zither\, has a history that spans over 2\,500 years. Originating during the Warring States period\, the instrument has evolved from a simple five-stringed zither to the sophisticated 21-stringed instrument commonly seen today. Renowned for its ethereal and resonant sound\, the guzheng has played a vital role in Chinese music\, often associated with court music\, folk traditions\, and contemporary compositions. Its unique sound is created by plucking the strings with a combination of finger techniques and movable bridges\, allowing for a wide range of expressive possibilities.\nBorn and raised in Southeast China\, Charlotte began studying the guzheng from a very young age. Under the guidance of guzheng musician杨始德\, she developed a profound understanding of both the technical and expressive aspects of the instrument. Charlotte’s dedication and skill were recognized when she obtained the Grade 10 certification (previously Performance Certificate) from the Xinghai Conservatory of Music. Charlotte’s performances are characterized by intricate melodies\, dynamic rhythms\, and a soulful connection to the music.\nAlthough Charlotte is an amateur\, she has performed at numerous venues and events\, including TEDxUNB\, earning accolades for her skill and artistry. These experiences have allowed her to share her love for the guzheng with a wider audience and continue to grow as a musician.\nBeyond performing\, Charlotte is passionate about promoting the art of guzheng and sharing its rich history with others. She enjoys participating in workshops and music groups\, aiming to inspire and connect with fellow enthusiasts. Through her efforts\, Charlotte hopes to bring greater awareness and appreciation of this beautiful instrument to a wider audience.\nIn her upcoming performance\, Charlotte will present a repertoire that showcases the rich traditions and modern adaptations of guzheng music. Audiences can expect a journey through time and sound\, with pieces that reflect both the historical legacy and contemporary evolution of the guzheng.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1108344143557938/
