SUMMARY:Chickahominy Mountain Band @ Hampton Brewing
DESCRIPTION:Chickahominy Mountain Band is a boot stompin’\, storytellin’\, funny bone ticklin’ group of musicians hailing from parts all over NB and beyond. With ranging influences from the funky sounds of Stanley\, the smooth clean rock sensibilities from Norton\, the bluegrass madness from Sussex\, the ragtime groove from a little place called Tarrana and last but not least the gritty blues emanating from the Musquash marsh.\nWe have been working hard on our debut album at Outsider’s Studio in Saint Andrews and have come away with 10 songs telling stories about small town New Brunswick life; from Grand Manan all the way to Oromocto Lake. We are totally self funding the album and have played shows in Saint Andrews\, Saint John and Fredericton so far to pay for the studio time and now we need to raise the funds to get the mixing\, mastering and finally pressing onto vinyl!\nWe are very much looking forward to our first show at Hampton Brewing Co and hope you will come out to support independent\, homegrown music from NB!\nThis is an outdoor event\, please dress for the weather.\nTickets are non-refundable.\nDoors: 7:15 PM\nShowtime: 8:00PM\n*NEW THIS SEASON*\nWe are partnering with Maritime-based company\, Locarius\, for ticket sales. SUMMARY:DOPETHRONE (MTL) // HELLBENT(ONT) // BLIND WITCH (MCTN)
DESCRIPTION:June 29th – 8pm – Tickets $20 – TICKET LINK IN EVENT DETAILSDopethrone returns to Moncton with Hamilton punks – Hellbent and Moncton’s newest Doomers – Blind Witch\n—————————————————————————\nDopethrone is a three piece band from Montreal\, Quebec\, Canada. Active since 2008\, this DIY band is known for their abrasive mix of sludge and doom with lyrics based in the self destruction\, cannabis\, sleazy drug abuse\, and the macabre.\nInfluenced by rock n roll\, punk\, black metal\, and blues\, the band refers to their music as “Slutch”\, the Canadian term for cold sludge\, a.k.a. dirty mud snow. They once described it as “frozen sludge\, snow covered in addiction\, blood\, tears\, and broken dreams”.\nAfter their second release\, the band started drawing some attention to them and were invited by Voivod to perform at Roadburn 2012. They since haven’t stopped growing their audience in Europe\, their adoptive land.\nSince their formation\, Dopethrone has release five full length studio albums to date\, joined some collaborations with other artists\, and have regularly toured Europe and Canada.\nAfter a series of massive tours in 2019\, the band has not hit the road since\, and focused on the ‘delicate’ baking of their new release. The new effort\, to be out early 2024\, will come with North American tours\, and even a return to Europe for select dates.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/315704541542188/

SUMMARY:Jazz on Wolastoq- Bellbird/Buskeroo Banzai/Scott Stevenson
DESCRIPTION:We bring a diverse lineup of musicians to the broken record stage with sounds that will get you thinking.\nScott Stevenson at 9:30 PM\nBuskeroo Banzia at 10:30 PM\nBellbird at 11:30 PM\nEntry: $10 advanced/$15 at the door/Festival pass\nhttps://locarius.io/events/1027/jazz-on-wolastoq-bellbirdbuskaroo-banzaiscott-stevenson\nPasses here:\nhttps://locarius.io/events/914/jazz-on-wolastoq-2024-early-bird\nBellbird is collective of Montreal-based musicians. Their unique instrumentation of two woodwinds\, bass\, and drums\, allows them to explore sonic landscapes that allude to harmony without being restricted by it. Original compositions by each band member showcase their diverse sets of influences\, including jazz\, avant-garde\, and folk music.\nTom McAvity has ben writing and performing original music in the genres of folk\,\nblues\, country and jazz in Fredericton and surrounding areas since the mid 1970’s.\nHe has been a regular at the Harvest Jazz and Blues festival over the years\, and\nhas two albums available on Bandcamp\, with a third currently in production\n(tommcavity.bandcamp.com).\nTayce McAvity began playing classical guitar at a young age\, and eventually\nswitched to bass for his father’s blues band “Big Giant Heads”. He has been\nplaying bass for his father\, and various other bands around the Maritimes since\nthe 1990’s\, and is currently the bassist for the popular local band “Pretty in Pink”\,\nas well as several other bands from Fredericton and outlying communities\nincluding his father’s current band “Buskeroo Banzai”.\nMike Kelly has been in the Canadian Music scene for over 40 years.\nPlaying drums from a very early age\, Mike grew up with strong Calypso\,\nJazz and Pop influence. “Groove” was all important! If not involved in\noriginal music production\, he won’t be far from the recording desk in search\nof the ideal drum sound.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/973365557395993/

Raised in Fredericton\, Fabio’s musical journey began with piano and cello. As the son of two classical musicians\, Fabio’s musical view was centred around the classical repertoire until he started learning electric bass with his teacher\, Jason Flores\, and guitar on his own. It was through bass and guitar that Fabio delved into Motown and RnB music which eventually led him to jazz. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree with a jazz concentration at Humber College in Toronto under Jon Maharaj. Joining Fabio is Liam Bunin on drums and fellow classmate Minh Hoang on keys.\n• Liam Bunin – Drums • Minh Hoang – Piano • Fabio Kutnowski – Upright & Electric Bass\nCloud Cats is the combined sounds of violinist/vocalist Jasmine Michel\, drummer/percussionist Liam Bunin\, bassist Fabio Kutnowski & keyboardist Minh Hoang. With influences of jazz\, classical and global folk\, their musical selections will carry listeners softly\, cloud-like\, through an eclectic sonic landscape.\nKyla Tilley is a Canadian singer-songwriter known for her emotionally turbulent live performances\, her gymnastic guitar playing\, and her fabulous shoe collection.\nUsing whatever words she likes\, Kyla constructs tales true and tall of fantastic exploits\, mundane tasks\, and moderate misadventure\, delivered through a mix of vocal fusillades\, chaotic finger-picking\, and kaleidoscopic rhythms\, punctuated with scintillating melodies and moments of serenity. Call it prog-folk.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/941232841076082/

SUMMARY:Jazz by the Sea
DESCRIPTION:Since 2022\, Baltimore bass clarinetist Todd Marcus and Toronto clarinetist Virginia MacDonald have been performing and touring together across the United States and Canada with their quintet. Their work together presents a lush ensemble that showcases the range of beauty and power by the clarinet in a modern jazz context\, with repertoire comprised of original compositions by both bandleaders. They have performed at jazz festivals and prominent venues internationally and will release their debut album as co-leaders in 2025.\nDue technical challenges and volume issues\, most musicians that utilize both bass and Bb clarinets tend to also double on saxophone and avoid using clarinets for more intense straight-ahead jazz. While the clarinet has a rich history in traditional New Orleans and Dixieland music\, swing era big band contexts\, and avant-garde free playing\, it is significantly underutilized in modern straight-ahead jazz.\nMarcus and MacDonald have both established a prominence and international reputation on their respective instruments in the modern jazz realm with their unique solo and compositional voices. Their musical partnership showcases the versatility of the bass clarinet and clarinet\, and captures audiences with a new and unique musical experience.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/8126268044050543/

SUMMARY:RJ Chesney @Char & Chowder - St. Andrew's
DESCRIPTION:RJ Chesney has deep roots in the American South\, having grown up in\nMacon\, Georgia and Biloxi Mississippi. His voice is deep and sonorous\nwith a twang. Folk \, blues\, country\, and gospel breathe in and inspire\nhis songs. RJ evokes Hank Williams Sr. meets John Prine with a little\nTownes Van Zandt thrown in.\nRJ has toured America and Europe and has earned a very loyal following.\nThis year alone RJ toured Norway ( for a 4th time ) and England ( for a second time) and most recently toured the big island of Hawaii in April of 2024.\nRJ is very excited to make his first tour to Canada \, a place that spawned so many of his singer songwriter influence \, especially Leonard Cohen .\nRJ’s second album\, Angels\nFalling\, was released in 2015 to rave reviews. including this quote\nby Terry Roland in No Depression magazine – ” If these songs were\npaintings\, they would be Andrew Wyeth’s starkly beautiful American\nlandscape work. These songs are landscapes of the soul.” …\nIn 2019\nRJ released his third album\, Amateur Revolution\, a collaboration with\nnotable Norwegian Producer-Composer HP Gunderesen and Los Angeles\nProducer Jason Hiller. Amateur Revolution features great musicians\nfrom both the Los Angeles\, California and Bergen\, Norway music\nscenes. The album was widely praised in the USA and throughout Europe\n. . Including\nPaul Kerr from AmericanaUK – ‘Amateur Revolution’ is not\ngoing to be the most polished album to grace the decks this month.\nIt’s all the better for that as the loose-limbed feel here runs\nthroughout the 12 songs gathered\, the sort of feel that one associates\nwith The Basement Tapes or Doug Sahm\, just a bunch of musicians having\nsome great fun performing some great songs\nand\nPaul Jackson – Fatea\nRecords UK- “Country music is a very broad church these days\,\nparticularly when you think of acts like Chris Stapleton and Sturgill\nSimpson\, so it’s great to get others coming along to push the\nboundaries further.\nSolid songs\, great performances from the band and crisp production\nmake Amateur Revolution a fine record indeed.”\nand from Music Morsels –\n“I have often wondered what Hank Williams Sr’s songs would have\nsounded like if he were alive today. L.A. (by way of Macon and Biloxi)\nsongsmith RJ Chesney channels those types of roots with his latest\nrelease. Vocally\, it has a bit less twang and more grit than Hank\, and\nthe songs \,while strongly retro\, have an earthy depth to them giving\nthem a subtle modern kick. The lyrics tend to be introspective and\noccasionally dark with a touch of humor in the right places. With\nexcellent production from highly-regarded Norwegian producer H.P.\nGunderson\, this music just feels like it came from the formative years\nof country and that is a very good thing these days.”\nIf you love true roots music\, that stirs your soul deep inside\, you’ll\nbe a fan of RJ too!\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/513852744548849/
