SUMMARY:Jon McKiel/Dusted (holy fuck)/Owen Steel
DESCRIPTION:All ages show featuring the amazing Jon McKiel\, Dusted (Brian Borcherdt of Holy Fuck) and Owen Steel. All ages\, $15 advance $20 at the door.\nDoors 8pm/Show 9pm\nJon Mckiel returns with a highly anticipated new album\, the long-awaited follow-up to his underground classic Bobby Joe Hope!\nThe songs of Jon McKiel are born of the bruised marshlands of remote New Brunswick\, from the craggy shores of the Atlantic coast; places where nature is a powerful wonder and the made-world is in slow decay. His new album\, Hex\, is a bloodshot pop record steeped in our dystopian present\, tempered\, across its ten tracks\, by an existential umami.\nBrian Borcherdt aka Dusted is best known as founding member of the Polaris Prize-shortlisted electro-experimental band Holy Fuck.\nThis project serves as a vehicle for more traditional songwriting\, although the sound retains many of the experimental elements he’s become known for. Dusted III offers a meditation on change and rebirth that all of us can relate to at this moment.\n“Steel has never failed to capture his audience’s attention with his own special blend of folk\, psychedelia\, and experimental bits and bites\, woven together in patchwork fashion…There is a timeless quality in much of what he does. He is an old soul. Maybe there is a connection there. A formula few have discovered. Whatever the case may be\, Steel has a new album and it is everything fans of his music could hope for.” – Matt Carter for Grid City Magazine.\n——\nAccessibility\nHaven Music Hall is a street-level small music venue without fixed seating. This show is combination standing and seating room only. Our entrance exterior is a 34″ wide door that has a small lip/step up from the street. If you’d like more information about accessing our space please email abigail@havenmusichall.com.\nAll Ages Show Details\nThis is a wet/dry show\, meaning both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks are served. All patrons will be ID’d upon entry and given a coloured bracelet corresponding with their ticket type (19+ or -19). Bartenders will also be checking IDs at the bar. SUMMARY:Valmy & Catherine Kennedy at Haven Music Hall!
DESCRIPTION:If you love moving vocalists and skilled instrumentalism\, this evening with Valmy and Catherine Kennedy is not to be missed!! All ages\, $15 adv/$20 at the door. Doors 7:30\, show 8pm!\nValmy is Newfoundland-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Ontario who’s been following the ocean and making home on the East Coast. Exploring themes of wonder\, loss\, and healing\, she uses her folk-influenced music to tell stories about loving and stumbling your way through the dark.\, Valmy creates and performs by weaving nature-inspired melodic swells and atmospheric harmonies with her contemplative writing.\nThis is demonstrated through her debut full-length album ‘The In Between’\, independently released in September 2023 and warmly received by listeners\, with a thoughtful review by Tony Ploughman of Fred’s Records: “The rhythms and melodies wrap around the mind and soul like a lovingly patched quilt…There is a cohesiveness to this full album offering meditative musings on balancing one’s own mental state in harmony with nature\, the songs providing a methodical process to achieve that balance. And the underlying intensity to follow through on the beckoning of one’s thoughts and emotions to create is constant…Deftly produced\, engineered and mixed\, “The In Between” is one of 2023’s finest NL Releases”.\n.\nAward-winning singer-songwriter Catherine Kennedy invites you to join her on the long way home. Any story worth telling deserves the time it takes to travel along the nostalgic route\, and Catherine’s soulful lyrics and bluesy tones will transport you directly there.\nOne music-lover praised how “the beautiful quality and range of Catherine’s voice pairs perfectly with her gift of storytelling. Catherine’s music makes you feel part of something bigger. Her songs always seem as though they’re written for you.”\nFollowing hot on the heel’s of Catherine Kennedy’s Harvest Jazz and Blues performance (with McKinley\, Morrison & Williams) opening for the legendary Victor Wooten & the Wooten Brothers\, come out to hear her on the Haven Music Hall stage!\n———–\nAccessibility\nHaven Music Hall is a street-level small music venue without fixed seating. SUMMARY:Lemon Bucket Orkestra
DESCRIPTION:Lemon Bucket Orkestra are Toronto’s original guerrilla-folk party-punk massive. The multi-award-winning ensemble has been heralded as a groundbreaking\, genre-bending phenomenon by media and fans alike\, and over the past 13 years they have performed all over the world from WOMAD in New Zealand and Pohoda in Slovakia\, to Festival D’Été in Québec City\, and Luminato in Toronto. The Guardian proclaimed that their performances are “gorgeously sung and passionately played” and The New York Times declared them “charismatic…handsome and ambitious.”\nEqual parts exhilarating precision and reckless abandon\, LBO’s live shows are a truly immersive experience ranging from the ecstatic to the cathartic and all points in between. Now they have been weaving that unique blend of energy and emotion onto their upcoming album Cuckoo. Set for release in May 2024\, the new record pens strong lines through powerful Ukrainian polyphony\, driving Balkan rhythms\, and a deep undertone of modern Western sensibilities. This mixture of Eastern Europe and the America’s is further elevated with the special feature of Macedonian master trumpeter\, hailing from Kocani Orkestar\, Nizo Alimov.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/2217286708608805/

SUMMARY:Katie Cruel & Leanne Hoffman LIVE
DESCRIPTION:We’re thrilled to welcome the amazing Katie Cruel to the Five & Dime stage!\nTickets $11.98\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/katie-cruel-leanne-hoffman-live-tickets-1022645599517?aff=oddtdtcreator\nHere’s a little more about her and her debut album: Lost Vagas:\n——-\nhttps://www.katiecruel.com/\n“The past is forever bleeding into the present on Lost Vagus\, Katie Cruels debut. Recorded on Radar in a cow barn\, Cruel’s record is an intoxicating collection of tainted love songs that float within the trademark reverb and air space perfected by Grammy-winning engineer and producer Mark Howard. Katie Cruel has taken the stage at Massey Hall opening for Wilco in the summer of 2024. Cruel has also shared the stage alongside Jerry Leger\, Timber Timbre\, Kathleen Edwards and more.\n“Katie Cruel” is a centuries-old traditional folk song that tells the tale of a woman who falls out of favour with those who once celebrated her wild charms. Katie Cruel is a singer-songwriter who named herself after it.\nAll of the songs on Lost Vagus resonate with a heavy blend of resignation and vulnerability as they tell the stories of women who find themselves at the intersection of chaos and control. These are songs for those who know how it feels to distrust your own desires. People who exhale smoke with every sigh. Katie Cruel is a ghost on the move but she keeps her eyes on the road.\nHoward’s reputation for live-off-the-floor techniques allowed for a near-telepathic interconnectivity among the players (Cruel\, Anna Ruddick\, Gavin Brown\, Jimmy Bowskill\, Michael Chaves)\, resulting in an immersive musical experience. “ I figure why not just show exactly and honestly who and where I am right now. But with really nice reverb.”\nCruel highlights the mysterious ways in which the world provides answers to questions we didn’t know we wanted to ask.”\n✍️ Damian Rogers & Kate Boothman\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1194014075168506/

SUMMARY:Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation Benefit Concert - Robert Thomas and the sessionmen - Live
DESCRIPTION:In support of the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation\, International Acoustic Music Award winners\, Robert Thomas and the sessionmen will perform at the BMO Theatre on May 30.\nThomas has crafted songs for legends including\, Kenny Rogers\, Bonnie Raitt\, Joe Cocker and the Dixie Chicks. As a staff writer for music publishing\, Thomas was tasked with writing hits and his diverse repertoire reflects that. He writes songs we can all connect with – memorable sing along melodies\, clever\, ear friendly lyrics couched in an array of rhythms – all introduced with a captivating\, often humorous\, repartee that is a throwback to the story telling era of Mark Twain\, Garrison Keillor and Stuart Maclean. Accompanied on fiddle\, mandolin\, guitar\, keyboards and percussion by the legendary “sessionmen” – Ray Legere and Jon Arsenault – whose credits in their own right include\, Alison Krauss\, Rita MacNeil\, Doc Watson\, Tony Rice and The Chieftains – Thomas delivers beautiful and energetic Folk/Americana mixed with a touch of Bluegrass that has captivated audiences across North America and Europe\, and garnered Entertainer of the Year and songwriter nominations from the East Coast Music Association and the International Acoustic Music Awards.\nOne sentence from Rodney Crowell sums up the artistry of Robert Thomas and the sessionmen – “These boys know what they’re doing.”\n🎟 Tickets are $35 per adult (taxes in)\n📍 BMO Theatre\, Saint John\n🕖 Doors open at 7:00 PM | Show starts at 7:30 PM\nAll proceeds will help support patient care in our region.\nGet your tickets here:\n👉 https://tickets.saintjohntheatrecompany.com/TheatreManager/2/tmEvent/tmEvent4372.html\nLearn more about Robert Thomas and Sessionmen here:\nhttps://www.robertthomasandthesessionmen.com/\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/977170337508435/
