SUMMARY:Hypochondriacs LIVE Recording
DESCRIPTION:Fredericton’s favourite live band\, The Hypochondriacs\, have set aside two nights in January for a live recording and they are inviting friends and fans to be a part of it.\nJanuary 11 and 12\, 2024\, ‘The Hypos’ will set up in the Charlotte Street Arts Centre to do what they do best: perform for packed and appreciative rooms. However\, making this cabaret-style event unique will be the added excitement of being part of a live recording.\n“It’s about evolution. These songs have evolved. The band has evolved. Things are a lot different now\, from when we started. We want to document that\,” explained band leader Josh Bravener. “I mean\, first off\, we’re not even a country band anymore.”\nSince forming in 2015\, The Hypochondriacs have released two albums of material ranging from country\, 50s doo-wop\, soul\, Americana\, and alternative music\, and their travels have landed them on festival stages throughout North America\, including SXSW (Austin)\, Breakout West (Calgary)\, and of course appearances at The Harvest Music Festival in their beloved hometown of Fredericton. While both records have been met with critical applause\, live shows are a true thrill ride\, converting many fans.\nThe live album is an offering to a fevered fanbase\, waiting patiently for an anticipated third album. It is an attempt to capture the magic of these six tremendously accomplished musicians working together for a greater good\, transforming fan favourites\, and leaving it all on the stage.\n“We simply want to capture the strength and energy of our live performances. The band has a lot to do with this. We want to highlight each of their unique influences\,” added Bravener.\nTickets are limited and are predicted to sell quickly. They are $20 advance\, $25 at the door. VIP bundles are also available for $50 to include show ticket\, VIP seating with table service\, a Hypochondriacs T-shirt\, invite to the Friday night after party and the digital download when available.\nTickets go on sale Monday\, December 11th at 10AM at\nhttps://www.tickettailor.com/events/musicrunsthroughit\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/358996423486483/

SUMMARY:Martha Wainright + Bells Larsen at Shivering Songs 2024
DESCRIPTION:Martha Wainright + Bells Larsen at Wilmot United Church\nDoors 7pm / Show 8pm\nAll Ages\nMartha Wainwright is beginning again.\nThe beguiling performer and songwriter returns with Love Will Be Reborn\, out in August. Not since 2012’s Come Home to Mama has a Martha Wainwright record been so full of original written material. Wainwright’s fifth studio album follows recent years of loneliness and clarity in search of optimism and joy.\nWainwright wrote the first song—and what would become the title track— of the record a few years ago. It was a very dark time\, she says\, but the positivity and luminosity of “Love Will Be Reborn” signalled what was to come. The song simply poured out of her.\nMuch of Wainwright’s songwriting since 2016’s Goodnight City felt too raw. “There were several years where I picked up the guitar\, and I was so\, so sad and depressing. I would just put it down because I was terrible.” Before writing it out\, or writing through it for catharsis\, Wainwright had to live it. Album opener “Middle of the Lake” reinforces Wainwright’s path forward as she sings over voltaic chords and percussion\, “I sing my songs of love and pain / Winds of change or simply singing\, I’m singing in the rain.” Her work never shies away from an existential throbbing wound. “There are a couple major subjects on the record. From what I can tell\, there’s really dark and then light\,” she says\,” It really is reflective of a very difficult period of divorce. Then\, after that\, it’s meeting somebody new and amazing. And so you hear certain songs about this new love.”\nA midwinter celebration of songwriting and storytelling\, and flagship partner of Fredericton FROSTival\, Shivering Songs hosts internationally renowned artists in historic and intimate spaces throughout Downtown Fredericton\, on the unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik people.\n———————————————————————-\nNotes on Accessibility:\nShivering Songs is actively working to improve festival accessibility We welcome all feedback and encourage you to reach out with any questions\, comments\, or concerns.\nAt this time in all venues we strongly encourage masking and sanitizing.\nTicket Refund Policy:\nTicket buyers can request a refund (up to 48 hours before performance) with one exception\, the payment processor will withhold a 10% processing fee. John now sings the praises of pioneers such as Son House\, Tampa Red\, Robert Nighthawk\, Howlin’ Wolf\, Muddy Waters\, and Johnny Winter\, for whom he had the pleasure to open in 1992.\nJohn plays Blues from almost everywhere – Mississippi\, Chicago\, Memphis\, St. Louis\, Texas – but his favourite remains the Deep Delta songs that reflect so much of the social and political history of the Deep South.\nThe best way to experience Papa John is to see him testify his love of the Blues\, live and in person. Treat yourself to a throwback in time\, a juke joint experience\, and let the good times roll!\nCover is $10 at the door.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1832264537294721/

SUMMARY:David Francey presented by The MRTI Agency
DESCRIPTION:David Francey is a Scottish-born Canadian carpenter-turned-songwriter\, who has become known as “one of Canada’s most revered folk poets and singers” (Toronto Star). Born in Ayrshire\, Scotland to parents who were factory workers\, he moved to Canada when he was twelve. For decades\, he worked across Canada in rail yards\, construction sites\, and in the Yukon bush\, all the while writing poetry\, setting it to melodies in his head and singing it to himself as he worked.\nA truly authentic folk singer\, Francey is a documentarian of the working person who never imagined earning a living from his music. But when he was in his 40s\, his wife\, artist Beth Girdler\, encouraged him to share his songs and sing in public. The reaction was instant. His first album Torn Screen Door came out in 1999 and was a hit in Canada. Since then\, he has released eleven albums\, won three Juno Awards and has had his songs covered by such artists as The Del McCoury Band\, The Rankin Family\, James Keelaghan and Tracy Grammer.\nFrancey also had the honour of receiving the prestigious SOCAN Folk Music Award as well as taking home the Grand Prize in both the International Acoustic Music Award and in the Folk category for the John Lennon Songwriting Award.\n“David’s straightforward songs tell honest stories of real people and real places. Poetic perception and a keen eye for the heart of the matter are trademarks of the man and his music. His songs and stories are a direct connection for audiences seeking depth and meaning in the day-to-day.” Shelter Valley Folk Festival\nDavid Francey was born in Ayrshire\, Scotland where he got his first taste of the working life as a paperboy. At age 10 he was devouring the newspapers he delivered\, establishing a life-long interest in politics and world events while developing the social conscience that forms the backdrop of his songs.\nHe was twelve when his family immigrated to Toronto. He says he can trace his love of the land\, the history\, and the people of his adopted country to weekend family drives exploring southern Ontario. Music played a large part in these family outings. They sang traditional Scottish tunes as they drove through the Canadian countryside. Dad and sister Muriel sang melody\, while mother and David sang harmonies.\nHis attachment to Canada grew with travel. He hitched across the country three times\, then thumbed his way to the Yukon. This attachment surfaces in his songs of rail lines\, farms\, and the St. Lawrence Seaway. He grew to understand the people while working in Toronto train yards\, the Yukon bush\, and as a carpenter in the Eastern Townships. These experiences colour his first CD\, Torn Screen Door\, with songs like Hard Steel Mill\, Gypsy Boys\, and Working Poor and his second\, Far End of Summer\, with Highway\, Flowers of Saskatchewan and February Morning Drive.\nIn concert David is a singer and a storyteller. His wry humour and astute observations combined with his openhearted singing style have earned him a loyal following.\nDavid lives with his wife\, artist Beth Girdler in the quiet but charming Lanark Highlands in southern Ontario. They are visited often by their son Colin\, daughters Amy and Julia and grandkids Tristan\, Alice and Millicent\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/342293201883287/

Exploring the complexities of relationship\, loss\, and healing\, she uses her folk-influenced music to tell stories about loving and stumbling your way through the dark. Now based in St. John’s\, Newfoundland\, Valmy creates and performs from a place of honesty and wonder by weaving melodic swells and atmospheric harmonies with her contemplative writing. Valmy independently released her debut full-length album\, ‘The In Between’\, in September 2023. This collection of songs\, half which were written during her time living in Wolfville\, was given new life through original arrangements\, and received warmly by listeners. Valmy received MusicNL 2023 nominations for Rising Star and Folk Artist of the Year\, is an ECMA 2024 nominee\, and is looking forward to connecting with Maritime audiences during her upcoming Autumn 2024 tour. The opportunity to return to the Valley where her songwriting voice was nurtured\, to share the stage with dear friend and musical companion\, Sarah McInnis\, is the highlight of her spring.\nhttps://valmymusic.com\nhttps://valmy.bandcamp.com\nSarah McInnis\nSinger/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sarah McInnis\, of Peterborough\, Ontario\, is a storyteller\, writing meaningful\, personal\, and relatable lyrics through which audience members can connect. Sarah’s songs come from having to travel to the raw\, twisted centers of insecurity\, vulnerability\, shame\, and grief\, to hold them gently\, illuminate\, forgive\, and thank them. With warm vocals and guitar in hand\, Sarah has the ability to change the feeling in the room\, giving listener’s honest\, true\, and personal stories that remind them that they are not alone in the serious\, silly\, and serendipitous parts of life. In 2023\, six years after her debut EP\, Farmer\, Coal Miner\, Sarah released Threads\, 8 original songs based on the stories of 8 Atlantic Canadians – 4 at end-of-life\, 4 who have lost loved ones. The album features a host of talented Atlantic-based artists and is accompanied by a short documentary that saw Sarah travelling the Atlantic provinces to gather stories of love and heartbreak. Through this project Sarah shows that in life and death\, music connects us all.\nhttps://sarahmcinnis.com\nhttps://sarahmcinnis.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/964106898040261/
