SUMMARY:"A Time of Upheaval: British America\, 1754-1784: Life\, Rebellion & The Fork " by Peter Gillies
DESCRIPTION:This presentation by Peter Gillies is about life in the 18th Century in British America. Looking at the culture of the common family and how they lived. The presentation will include what people ate and how they ate\, including the fork – how it was\, or wasn’t\, used. What about other things like beer\, the “sipper”\, and how you learned the 28 (or was that 29) letters of the alphabet!\nThis event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the New Brunswick Historical Society.\nThis month’s speaker\, Peter Gillies\, has been a student of the 18th Century for more than 40 years. He has also been a reenactor for most of that time focusing on the 18th Century: portraying a merchant\, and soldiers from the Seven Years War\, the American Revolution (DeLancey’s Brigade\, Butler’s Rangers) and the American Civil War with the 20th Maine Regiment of Volunteers\, Company I. He is a member of many historical and history academic and research groups and is a member of DeLancey’s Brigade and the 20th Maine. His studies on the 18th Century focus on the Life and Times of common people of that century with a concentration in the American War of Independence.\nFor further information\, contact: theloyalisthouse@gmail.com\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/785518056817945/

SUMMARY:Paul Campbell - It's All About The Love
DESCRIPTION:Paul Campbell\, known to many Frederictonians as an entertainer who has been bringing crowds to the dance floor for decades\, has never considered himself a songwriter. However\, with the chaotic political climate of recent years\, he felt the need to complete his one and only attempt; a song he started to write while vacationing abroad in 1976. It’s now finished\, and in a move that’s very ‘on-brand’ for Campbell\, he has scheduled a celebration in its honor.\nSong For Democracy-1984 Redux finally gets its official debut on Saturday\, June 1st at the Charlotte Street Arts Center\, at the 5th Downtown Blues Band ‘Party For The Planet’. The band will perform two sets\, along with a special video presentation of the new song\, which will be preceded by a brief recorded interview with Campbell\, conducted by MRTI’s Rob Pinnock. The final song of the evening will be Song For Democracy-1984 Redux performed live for the first time in front of an audience.\nAs the long-time front man for Fredericton’s favourite party band\, the Downtown Blues Band\, Campbell has always chosen to keep things non-political\, but Song For Democracy-1984 Redux is Campbell’s anthem of love and hope in a world he feels is heading in the wrong direction for humanity.\nInspired by 1984\, George Orwell’s frightening look into the future\, and set in a totalitarian world\, Campbell seeks out the light of humanity in the form of LOVE\, and calls it out from the darkness as the song rises to its thrilling\, emotional peak.\nTickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Net proceeds will be donated to the purchase of supplies needed to help those displaced by the war in the Ukraine.\nPRESALE for CSAC Members on NOW and general sale will start Monday March 4th.\nDoors open at 7:00PM with show at 7:30PM.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/262052413607400/

SUMMARY:Connections: Community Conversation Panel Series
DESCRIPTION:Join your fellow Saint John community members at Haven Music Hall for candid conversations about the social\, political and cultural systems that affect us. Society is divided between the few who dominate and the many who are dominated. This division is the product of the core structures that define our society (i.e.\, systems of oppression). A team of panelists will explore ideas around these systems of oppression and connect them to basic needs\, gender\, race\, and environmental issues. Questions and participation from the audience is strongly encouraged.\nInclusivity and accessibility are our top priorities. If you’d like more information about Haven Music Hall please email hello@havenmusichall.com or visit www.havenmusichall.com. Please contact the event organisers in advance at ConnectionsSJ@proton.me for any requests or inquiries about the panel series.\nRegistration link: https://tally.so/r/wAxPN0\nDoors: 5:30pm\nPanel: 6:00pm-7:30pm\nOpen discussion: 7:30pm-8:00pm\nSchedule:\nAugust 29th – Systems of Oppression\nSeptember 19th – Basic Needs\nOctober 24th – Gender Issues\nNovember 21st – Race Issues\nDecember 12th – Environment\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1056705119193110/

SUMMARY:What’s up with mental health care in Saint John?
DESCRIPTION:Join your fellow Saint John community members at Haven Music Hall for the next workshop in the Connections Workshop Series. These workshops are designed to teach practical skills\, build community solidarity\, and empower collective action.\nDeaths by drug toxicity and community shootings have been on the rise in Saint John. COVID lockdowns and societal changes during the pandemic have negatively impacted young adults. As a result\, primary care providers and community agencies have been dealing with more acuity and complexity in mental health disorders. There is a crisis in our addiction and mental health care services\, with people having to wait longer for ongoing and specialized services.\nJoin us to explore community solutions and the right to have more accessibility in addiction and mental health care.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1034311998870529/

SUMMARY:Jones Gallery Lecture Series | A Very Brief Introduction to Abstract Art
DESCRIPTION:Join Jones Auction House curator and art historian Sarah Jones for a quick introduction to abstract art – what is abstraction\, how did it begin\, and ways to look and think about non-representational artwork. We will pay special attention to the Painters Eleven\, a group of Canadian abstract artists who played a critical role in establishing abstraction within postwar Canadian art\, through examples of works by Jack Hamilton Bush (Canadian\, 1909-1977) and Raymond John Mead (Canadian\, 1921-1998) in our current auction (https://www.jonesauctions.ca/june2025).\nThis lecture is free and everyone is welcome. SUMMARY:Jones Gallery Lecture Series | Art of Christopher Pratt (Zoom/Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Join Jones Auction House curator and art historian Sarah Jones for a discussion of the life and work of Canadian artist\, Christopher Pratt (1935-2022). We will look closely at the two watercolour and colour pencil works in our current June Collection auction (https://www.jonesauctions.ca/june2025).\nPratt was a Canadian painter and printmaker recognized for his austere\, meticulously composed representations of Newfoundland’s built and natural environments. With a minimalist sensibility and exacting technique\, his paintings and serigraphs evoke a restrained emotional (sometimes eerie) register and engage with themes of solitude\, memory\, and place.\nThis online lecture is free.
