SUMMARY:Dillon Ryan & The Dream Romantic/Lazermortis/The Gregories
DESCRIPTION:Enter a dreamscape of sound with Dillon Ryan & The Dream Romantic\, Lazermortis and The Gregories on Friday May 31st.\nDoors at 7pm\nShow at 8pm\n19+\n$10+tax advance\n$15+tax at the door\n—\nDillon Ryan & The Dream Romantic\n“Dillon Ryan & the Dream Romantic are a new wave band from the East Coast of Canada based out of Moncton/Miramichi NB. The band is authentically breathing new life into the underexplored genres of new wave\, goth and post punk. Their inspiration from the Smiths\, Echo & The Bunnymen and the Cure is marvelously palpable in their material yet their work remains completely fresh. Their hauntingly melodic landscapes swallow you into a cinematic gothic universe. It’s soothing yet scary and you just can’t get enough. Dillon Ryan & The Dream Romantic weave melodic lullabies and gothic ballads that cling to listeners. Their poetic songwriting paired with a beautifully melancholic sonic landscape is an enthralling void to lose yourself to. In a world oversaturated with pathological positivity it’s exciting to hear such an emotionally generous band. Their music somehow makes you want to dance and cry at the same time\, it’s a rare and honest dichotomy. The band is a 4 time Music New Brunswick award nominee and winner of the 2017 “Fans Choice Award”. Ryan has released 3 albums to date and is currently touring in support of the newest album “In Polaroid” which was produced by John Mullane (In-Flight Safety)\nLazermortis\nLazermortis is a full time funeral director and embalmer by day and an 80’s inspired synthwave/outrun artist by night. Hailing from Atlantic Canada\, Lazer released her debut album Backseat Demons on June 30\, 2020\, which has achieved over 70K streams on Spotify with her standout track Below The Sunrise! Her latest EP\, Autonetic Afterlife is a marriage between her career and her passion for synthwave\, exploring how artificial intelligence might perceive death and the afterlifet.\nThe Gregories\nThe Gregories are quartet of musicians based in Moncton\, New Brunswick. They play strange pop\, art rock\, and disquieting love songs. While their music evokes an era that straddles the 1970’s and 80’s\, it is still thoroughly contemporary and defies nostalgia. Often humorous and dream-like \, David Gregory’s lyrics probe the absurdities of being human. Their first record “The Offal Truth” was released in the autumn of 2018. It was recorded\, mixed and produced by Pierre-Guy Blanchard who is best known for his work with Les Hay Babies\, Lisa LeBlanc and Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire. Currently promoting their current record “Tonights The Day” .\n—\nAccessibility\nHaven Music Hall is a street-level small music venue without fixed seating. SUMMARY:Meeple Meet-Up: Euphoria
DESCRIPTION:Mat and Danielle are back hosting Meeple Meet-Up at Offline on Fridays! Yay! What is Meeple Meet-Up? Let’s get into it! \nWhat is it: A place to make new friends\, learn to play a game\, and hang out! Join us at 6:30pm on Fridays to try a new game (or play an old favourite). No experience or plus one required. There will be people there to teach you the game\, and to play with! The perfect way to meet new friends and play more board games! When: Friday June 7th at 6:30pm\, and every Friday after that! \nWhere: Offline Board Game Cafe\, at Parkway Mall! We have lots of parking and we are an accessible venue. \nWho: You! Your friends! Your family! All are welcome and we are so happy to host you. Please let us know by sending us a message\, commenting or calling us at 506-631-3333 if you intend on coming! \nCost: Just our regular cover price of $5+tax for anyone 12-64 or $3+tax if you’re 2-11 or 65+! Members pay no cover!\nNow let’s get into the game we’re playing this week!\nIn Euphoria: Build a Better Dystopia\, you lead a team of workers (dice) and recruits (cards) to claim ownership of the dystopian world. You will generate commodities\, dig tunnels to infiltrate opposing areas\, construct markets\, collect artifacts\, strengthen allegiances\, and fulfill secret agendas.\nEuphoria is a worker-placement game in which dice are your workers. The number on each die represents a worker’s knowledge—that is\, his level of awareness that he’s in a dystopia. Worker knowledge enables various bonuses and impacts player interaction. If the collective knowledge of all of your available workers gets too high\, one of them might desert you. You also have two elite recruit cards at your disposal; one has pledged allegiance to you\, but the other needs some convincing. You can reveal and use the reticent recruit by reaching certain milestones in the game… or by letting other players unwittingly reach those milestones for you.\nYour path to victory is paved with the sweat of your workers\, the strength of your allegiances\, and the tunnels you dig to infiltrate other areas of the world\, but the destination is a land grab in the form of area control. You accomplish this by constructing markets that impose harsh restrictions of personal freedoms upon other players\, changing the face of the game and opening new paths to victory. You can also focus on gathering artifacts from the old world\, objects of leisure that are extremely rare in this utilitarian society. The dystopian elite covet these artifacts—especially matching pairs—and are willing to give you tracts of land in exchange for them.\nFour distinct societies\, each of them waiting for you to rewrite history. What are you willing to sacrifice to build a better dystopia?\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/466796239067370/

SUMMARY:Living Roots- Union Duke/Lynne Hanson at Klub Khrome
DESCRIPTION:Our Double headliner show\, you will not want to miss\nUnion Duke makes their long-awaited return to Fredericton (5 years) and Canada’s Queen of Americana team up for this one time show..\nLynne Hanson at 7 PM\nUnion Duke at 8:15 PM\nTickets: $20 adv/$25 door/festival pass\nhttps://locarius.io/events/664/living-roots-union-dukelynne-hanson-at-klub-khrome\nPasses here\nhttps://locarius.io/events/566/living-roots-music-festival-2024-festival-pass\nLiving Roots Music Festival recognizes that it is situated\non unceded\, unsurrendered Wolastoqey Territory.\nUnion Duke is two fifths country\, two fifths city\, and one fifth whiskey. They have been described as a raucous collision of alt-rock and twang\, bringing crowds to their feet with songs from the heart. Soaring harmonies\, driving rhythm\, and an infectious enthusiasm have seen these five guys from youth to young manhood and helped carve out a space for themselves in the annals of Canadiana.\nWith three full-length albums\, many singles\, countless festival stages\, thousands of records sold\, and hundreds of thousands of kilometres of road behind them\, the band is excited to be touring new music and winning new fans on their return to the endless highway.\nDuring their latest hiatus due to the Covid years\, Union Duke has been writing furiously and are excited to bring new music to their loyal fans. If you hope to catch them live\, you better get your tickets early\, because these fellas have a knack for selling out shows months in advance. Catch them while you can!\nToo tough for folk and too blues-influenced for country\, Lynne Hanson’s brand of porch music with a little red dirt can turn on a dime from a sunshine\, blue sky ballad to a full on thunderstorm of gritty Americana swamp from one song to the next. Her hard living music has garnered her the nickname “Canada’s Queen of Americana.” And while her deep\, bluesy croon has drawn comparisons to Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch\, it’s the poetry of her lyrics that really sets her apart.\nWinner of two Canadian Folk Music Awards\, Hanson is known for her high energy\, roots guitar driven live performances\, whether playing solo or with her band the Good Intentions. She has an uncanny way of connecting with her audience with an authenticity that is as entertaining as it is disarming.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1558672794917395/

SUMMARY:Living Roots- Jordan Trethewey- These are the people in your neighborhood
DESCRIPTION:The event time is 1 PMEntry is by donation\nJordan will invite guests to read the poems he has written about their stories as well as reading some himself. He will open up for questions to be asked as well.\nJordan Trethewey’s tribute to the people of Fredericton\, a city I have never been to\, traveled nearly 5400km westward for a curious read. Civic poetry is a unique way of getting the scoop on what to really pay attention to in an unfamiliar space: the people. In reading about people from away (from me\, at least)\, we get to learn something pretty nifty: Frederictonians! They are just like us! Strip away the named location\, and these poems may as well be familiar and relatable to those living in many west coast cities and towns. The beauty of this 2021 – 2024 poet laureate’s work is that it is accessible to all — not just a love letter to Fredericton\, but a gift for anyone to pick up and feel seen. Intimate themes of family\, grief\, immigrant loneliness\, relationships requited and unrequited\, obstacles overcome and succumbed to are just a few which echo throughout this collection. What makes this work even more special is that each poem is a tribute to a real person\, living or dead\, or to Fredericton itself.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/409550611702362/

SUMMARY:Ecstatic Dance/ Movement
DESCRIPTION:Since our first ecstatic dance event in Saint John was a great success\, why not do it again?!\nJoin us for an ecstatic dance/ movement event in the heart of Saint John\, New Brunswick\, where we’ll come together to celebrate movement\, music\, and community.\nDate: Tuesday June 11th\, 2024\nTime: 7pm – 9pm **Please arrive a few minutes early or on time so that we can all start together.**\nLocation: The Kent Theatre\, 24 Coburg St\, Saint John\, NB\nWhat is Ecstatic Dance?\nEcstatic dance is more than just movement; it’s a mindful practice\, a sacred journey of self-discovery through dance and music. Unlike traditional dance settings\, there are no choreographed routines\, no judgments\, and no expectations. Participants are invited to let go of their inhibitions\, surrender to the music\, and move intuitively from the depths of their souls. In other words\, ecstatic movement is a form of self-expression.\nWho is this for?\n\nAll bodies looking to explore ecstatic movement.\n\nWhat to Expect:\n\nDiverse Music: Diverse playlist spanning various genres and tempos\, from ambient sounds to tribal beats\, allowing you to explore a spectrum of emotions and sensations.\nSafe Space: This event is a judgment-free zone where you can express yourself authentically without fear of criticism. We celebrate diversity and inclusivity\, welcoming people from all backgrounds and walks of life. There will be ZERO tolerance for discrimination of any kind.\nCommunity Connection: Join fellow dancers in a shared journey of self-expression and liberation. Connect with like-minded individuals and forge meaningful connections on and off the dance floor.\n\nStructure of the Event:\n\nOpening Circle: The group will come together and talk about what ecstatic movement is\, ask questions\, play a little get to know you game\, and review the event’s guidelines for consent and courtesy.\nDance/ Movement: The music will last about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The tempo and energy of the music will take you through a warm up to cool down journey to connect with your body and move as you wish. This time is for you to utilize as you see fit.\nClosing: After the music ends we will regroup with everyone and share a few words about our experience. Spend some time connecting with other participants if you wish or take quiet time with yourself.\nFacilitator: There will always be a facilitator present to offer insight\, direction\, structure\, and to hold the integrity of the container. Please feel free to tap the facilitator on the shoulder at any time for assistance or otherwise.\n\nWhy Attend? \n\nStress Relief: Dance away your worries and cares as you release endorphins and tension from your body.\nSelf-Expression: Discover new depths of self-awareness and emotional well-being as you express yourself freely through movement.\nPhysical Fitness: Get your heart pumping and your body moving with a full-body workout that’s as fun as it is beneficial.\nMindfulness: Cultivate mindfulness and mental clarity as you focus on the present moment and the sensations within your body.\nCommunity: Meet like minded people and form connections that last.\n\nHow to Join: \n\nTickets: The tickets are on a sliding scale $10-$20. Purchase by sending e-transfer to carley.schandlen@yahoo.ca or CASH at the door. (there is a limited capacity – pre purchase is advised)\nDress Code: Comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement.\nBring: Water bottle\, towel (if you sweat)\, sock feat/ indoor shoes\, and an open mind ready to dance!\nArrival: Please arrive a few minutes early so that we can all start together.\nConsiderations: There will be no talking or phone use permitted in the dance space. Please step outside for these things as to respect the other participants.\nScent Free Space: Please refrain from wearing anything scented in the space.\n\n* DANCING & CONSENT *Enjoy your own personal dance or spark up creative movement with others\, if there is mutual agreement. If you wish to dance with another\, tune into their body language that will clearly give you a ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Respect that a person’s willingness to dance can change from moment to moment. At any time you\, or the person you are dancing with\, may choose to end the encounter by moving away\, or bowing with hands in prayer.\nDon’t miss out on this unique opportunity to dance\, connect\, and elevate your spirit. Come join us for an unforgettable ecstatic dance experience in Saint John\, New Brunswick!\nPlease feel free to contact me at carley.schandlen@yahoo.ca with any questions.\nAccessibility Note:– there are stairs up to the front doors of the venue– chairs will be available for individuals who wish to dance from sitting or hold onto something for support while they dance.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/746397004335193/
