SUMMARY:Les Chanterelles + The Hello Crows: The MRTI Agency showcase at Shivering Songs 2024
DESCRIPTION:The MRTI Agency showcase featuring Les Chanterelles + The Hello Crows at Charlotte Street Arts Center\nDoors 6PM / Show 7PM\nAll Ages\nLes Chanterelles\nHarmony is everything to Les Chanterelles\, and that extends far beyond the tightly woven vocals that have become synonymous with this trio. In their music\, as well as in their busy lives of juggling careers and motherhood\, alongside the creative impulses of being part of a vocal group\, harmony is essential. Together\, Justine Everett\, Juanita Bourque and Sylvia Reentovich hold the focus as they seamlessly weave three part harmonies into every song they sing. From their growing list of originals\, that speak through the lens of life as a woman in today’s world\, to thoughtful cover material plucked from heritage artists who have shaped their sound through the forge of influence\, Les Chanterelles find a way to apply their own style and charm to the music they perform.\nDuring their brief history\, Les Chanterelles have already performed a highly anticipated Harvest Music debut in 2021. Earlier that same year they were also featured on CBC’s East Coast Hour\, during their Story and The Song series\, where they contributed an original composition. In May 2022 they released their debut EP to a positive reception.\nAt the end of the day\, Les Chanterelles goals and ambitions are honestly humble. They want to continue as writers–delivering songs of connection. They know that as they travel to share their stories through song\, they will no doubt meet great people about whom they’ll write more songs.\nThe Hello Crows\nLessons from the past\, anthems for the present\, and hope in the future where truth is realized— that clear-sightedness combined with cautious optimism says a lot about what The Hello Crows are hoping to accomplish. They are not only a group of highly talented Wabanaki songwriters and storytellers\, but together they stand as a collective voice representing both their people and generation simultaneously.\nFormed in 2022\, Judie Acquin\, Dylan Ward\, Mattie Comeau and Quinn Bonnell originally appeared together when they were all booked together as a Wabanaki songwriter circle. Sharing the stage\, the chemistry quickly became obvious. Not only were they all a natural fit for one another\, but their combined voices only proved to further amplify their powerful messages. In that instant\, making this a more permanent lineup was the only logical ‘next move’.\nWith The Hello Crows\, the aim is to educate audiences about their beautiful culture\, history and the positive things happening within their communities\, meanwhile honestly sharing the social obstacles in place today. Within the group\, we not only learn of the indigenous cultures\, values and traditions\, but also gain the perspectives of indigenous women and the LQBTQIA2+ communities as well\, making The Hello Crows one of the most important acts working in Canada right now.\nCelebrate the spirit of healing\, humour and fortitude with The Hello Crows and their journey of putting the modern Indigenous experience and landscape to story and song. For further info\, press and booking opportunities contact The MRTI Agency.\nA midwinter celebration of songwriting and storytelling\, and flagship partner of Fredericton FROSTival\, Shivering Songs hosts internationally renowned artists in historic and intimate spaces throughout Downtown Fredericton\, on the unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik people.\n———————————————————————-\nNotes on Accessibility:\nShivering Songs is actively working to improve festival accessibility We welcome all feedback and encourage you to reach out with any questions\, comments\, or concerns.\nAt this time in all venues we strongly encourage masking and sanitizing.\nTicket Refund Policy:\nTicket buyers can request a refund (up to 48 hours before performance) with one exception\, the payment processor will withhold a 10% processing fee. Refunds will be issued to the original method of payment used at time of purchase. If an event is rescheduled or canceled ticket buyers will be notified with options including a refund.\nIf you require a refund option within 48 hours of the event we can offer you credit to a future show.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1982519828811094/

SUMMARY:Pisuwin
DESCRIPTION:Returning to Imperial Theatre…\nPisuwin is a Wolastoqiyik story exploring the vital connection of the Wolastoq people to Spirit. This multidisciplinary piece reflects on the current state of dis-ease in our world\, illuminating a path to wholeness and rebalance. The project blends Indigenous storytelling and dance\, redefining this classical form for a diverse\, savvy\, and contemporary audience. Electronic sound\, industrial landscapes and digital projection\, juxtaposed with Wolastoq songs and visual motifs of the spiritual and natural world\, create the Indigenous cosmology within which the story takes place. Pisuwin pushes us to confront our greed and alienation\, while inspiring us to take a different path; one of connection\, community\, and wholeness.\nCo-created by Nipahtuwet Naka Wespahtuwet Possesom\, Sitansisk Wolastoqiyik and Artistic Director Igor Dobrovolskiy\, Pisuwin is set to the soaring music of multi-award winning composer\, singer and song writer Jeremy Dutcher\, Neqotkuk Wolasoqiyik with 6 more indigenous creators/artists including Métis dancer Jera Wolfe dancing the lead role. The creative process of Pisuwin was overseen by Wolastoqiyik Elders Dr. Maggie Paul and Lisa Dutcher.\nThe project has set a new bar for the company in cross-disciplinary and cultural collaboration.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/839709871456792/
