SUMMARY:Kevin Drew + Thanya Iyer at Shivering Songs 2024
DESCRIPTION:Kevin Drew + Thanya Iyer at Wilmot United Church\nDoors 7pm / Show 8pm\nAll Ages\n‘Aging’\, the third solo album from Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew\, was the inevitable title of his meditative new record – because he was living everything that comes with it. Influenced by the recent passing of friends and mentors\, as well as the declining health of close family\, ‘Aging’ brings together songs written over a decade marked by the signifiers of midlife – love\, loss\, and illness – all while wrestling with the hard truths of aging.\nThe album’s 8-song collection of minimalist piano ballads is darker and more contemplative than anything Drew has released before. Across the 33-minutes can be found the spirit of Drew classics like “Lover’s Spit” and “Sweetest Kill\,” but with a sense of sorrow rarely heard on previous material. The writer of some of indie rock’s most life-affirming and celebratory anthems has become world sick.\nThe themes that have preoccupied much of Drew’s two-decades-long career are still present – the power of love\, resisting apathy\, the pursuit of connection – but the subject matter once exclaimed with the youthful fervour of a wide-eyed idealist now carries the weight of someone trying to make sense of the world in the throes of grief.\nA midwinter celebration of songwriting and storytelling\, and flagship partner of Fredericton FROSTival\, Shivering Songs hosts internationally renowned artists in historic and intimate spaces throughout Downtown Fredericton\, on the unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik people.\n———————————————————————-\nNotes on Accessibility:\nShivering Songs is actively working to improve festival accessibility We welcome all feedback and encourage you to reach out with any questions\, comments\, or concerns.\nAt this time in all venues we strongly encourage masking and sanitizing.\nTicket Refund Policy:\nTicket buyers can request a refund (up to 48 hours before performance) with one exception\, the payment processor will withhold a 10% processing fee. Refunds will be issued to the original method of payment used at time of purchase. If an event is rescheduled or canceled ticket buyers will be notified with options including a refund.\nIf you require a refund option within 48 hours of the event we can offer you credit to a future show.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/330880072902200/

SUMMARY:Travis Flynn + Pallmer + Pompey at Shivering Songs 2024
DESCRIPTION:Pallmer + Pompey at Beaverbrook Art Gallery\nDoors 5:30PM / Show 6PM\nAll Ages – FREE\nPallmer is a chamber-pop project born from late night improv sessions during a particularly snowy winter in Fredericton\, New Brunswick. Using a cello and viola\, the band’s music melds their love of songwriting with their classical training\, using loopers and effects to expand the possibilities of their wooden instruments. Pallmer’s most recent release\, “Quiet Clapping” won Recording of the Year at the 2021 Prix MNB Awards. The collection of five songs were recorded in a large dance studio at the back of a church-converted-to-arts centre\, taking advantage of its natural resonance\, and embracing the occasional noises from old water heating. Pallmer released a limited edition\, double-header vinyl run of “Quiet Clapping” & their 2019 release\, “Grass Garden” on April 9th\, 2022.\nPompey’s songwriting is fuelled by an ongoing search for comfort. Sometimes it works but often\, it unearths a hidden\, less comfortable truth that usually ends up being a better song.\nA midwinter celebration of songwriting and storytelling\, and flagship partner of Fredericton FROSTival\, Shivering Songs hosts internationally renowned artists in historic and intimate spaces throughout Downtown Fredericton\, on the unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik people.\n\n———————————————————————-\n\nNotes on Accessibility:\nShivering Songs is actively working to improve festival accessibility We welcome all feedback and encourage you to reach out with any questions\, comments\, or concerns.\nAt this time in all venues we strongly encourage masking and sanitizing.\n\nTicket Refund Policy:\nTicket buyers can request a refund (up to 48 hours before performance) with one exception\, the payment processor will withhold a 10% processing fee. SUMMARY:Les Chanterelles + The Hello Crows: The MRTI Agency showcase at Shivering Songs 2024
DESCRIPTION:The MRTI Agency showcase featuring Les Chanterelles + The Hello Crows at Charlotte Street Arts Center\nDoors 6PM / Show 7PM\nAll Ages\nLes Chanterelles\nHarmony is everything to Les Chanterelles\, and that extends far beyond the tightly woven vocals that have become synonymous with this trio. In their music\, as well as in their busy lives of juggling careers and motherhood\, alongside the creative impulses of being part of a vocal group\, harmony is essential. Together\, Justine Everett\, Juanita Bourque and Sylvia Reentovich hold the focus as they seamlessly weave three part harmonies into every song they sing. From their growing list of originals\, that speak through the lens of life as a woman in today’s world\, to thoughtful cover material plucked from heritage artists who have shaped their sound through the forge of influence\, Les Chanterelles find a way to apply their own style and charm to the music they perform.\nDuring their brief history\, Les Chanterelles have already performed a highly anticipated Harvest Music debut in 2021. Earlier that same year they were also featured on CBC’s East Coast Hour\, during their Story and The Song series\, where they contributed an original composition. In May 2022 they released their debut EP to a positive reception.\nAt the end of the day\, Les Chanterelles goals and ambitions are honestly humble. They want to continue as writers–delivering songs of connection. They know that as they travel to share their stories through song\, they will no doubt meet great people about whom they’ll write more songs.\nThe Hello Crows\nLessons from the past\, anthems for the present\, and hope in the future where truth is realized— that clear-sightedness combined with cautious optimism says a lot about what The Hello Crows are hoping to accomplish. They are not only a group of highly talented Wabanaki songwriters and storytellers\, but together they stand as a collective voice representing both their people and generation simultaneously.\nFormed in 2022\, Judie Acquin\, Dylan Ward\, Mattie Comeau and Quinn Bonnell originally appeared together when they were all booked together as a Wabanaki songwriter circle. Sharing the stage\, the chemistry quickly became obvious. Not only were they all a natural fit for one another\, but their combined voices only proved to further amplify their powerful messages. In that instant\, making this a more permanent lineup was the only logical ‘next move’.\nWith The Hello Crows\, the aim is to educate audiences about their beautiful culture\, history and the positive things happening within their communities\, meanwhile honestly sharing the social obstacles in place today. Within the group\, we not only learn of the indigenous cultures\, values and traditions\, but also gain the perspectives of indigenous women and the LQBTQIA2+ communities as well\, making The Hello Crows one of the most important acts working in Canada right now.\nCelebrate the spirit of healing\, humour and fortitude with The Hello Crows and their journey of putting the modern Indigenous experience and landscape to story and song. For further info\, press and booking opportunities contact The MRTI Agency.\nA midwinter celebration of songwriting and storytelling\, and flagship partner of Fredericton FROSTival\, Shivering Songs hosts internationally renowned artists in historic and intimate spaces throughout Downtown Fredericton\, on the unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik people.\n———————————————————————-\nNotes on Accessibility:\nShivering Songs is actively working to improve festival accessibility We welcome all feedback and encourage you to reach out with any questions\, comments\, or concerns.\nAt this time in all venues we strongly encourage masking and sanitizing.\nTicket Refund Policy:\nTicket buyers can request a refund (up to 48 hours before performance) with one exception\, the payment processor will withhold a 10% processing fee. SUMMARY:Shivering Songs: Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Tribute with Stephen Lewis & Bobby Mahar
DESCRIPTION:Shivering Songs is pleased to present A Tribute to Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds featuring Stephen Lewis and Bobby Mahar on Thursday\, Jan. 18th @ 7:30pm\, at The Fredericton Playhouse. Proceeds from this performance will be donated towards funding summer camp experiences for vulnerable/at-risk youth and children at Bar None Camp in 2024.\nStephen Lewis and Bobby Mahar first started playing Dave Matthews songs together when they met in high school nearly 20 years ago. Their combined love for the intricacies of the ways both Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds weave intoxicating stories together through lyrics\, song\, and melody formed an unbreakable musical connection and a lifelong friendship. Through this friendship\, they became dedicated to honoring the songs that first brought them together by paying tribute in the truest form of their musical heroes (Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds)\, while incorporating just the right amount of themselves into each song to make the concert experience truly unique and memorable.\nThis performance is deeply meaningful for both Stephen and Bobby as they join forces and celebrate their friendship through this exceptional tribute. What sets it apart is its ability to transcend the typical musical performance\, offering more than the normal concert experience – by contributing to the creation of joy\, adventure\, and unforgettable experiences for not only those in attendance but also for at-risk youth and children who otherwise might not have the chance to participate in summer camp in their lifetime.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/318855124313410/

SUMMARY:Martha Wainright + Bells Larsen at Shivering Songs 2024
DESCRIPTION:Martha Wainright + Bells Larsen at Wilmot United Church\nDoors 7pm / Show 8pm\nAll Ages\nMartha Wainwright is beginning again.\nThe beguiling performer and songwriter returns with Love Will Be Reborn\, out in August. Not since 2012’s Come Home to Mama has a Martha Wainwright record been so full of original written material. Wainwright’s fifth studio album follows recent years of loneliness and clarity in search of optimism and joy.\nWainwright wrote the first song—and what would become the title track— of the record a few years ago. It was a very dark time\, she says\, but the positivity and luminosity of “Love Will Be Reborn” signalled what was to come. The song simply poured out of her.\nMuch of Wainwright’s songwriting since 2016’s Goodnight City felt too raw. “There were several years where I picked up the guitar\, and I was so\, so sad and depressing. I would just put it down because I was terrible.” Before writing it out\, or writing through it for catharsis\, Wainwright had to live it. Album opener “Middle of the Lake” reinforces Wainwright’s path forward as she sings over voltaic chords and percussion\, “I sing my songs of love and pain / Winds of change or simply singing\, I’m singing in the rain.” Her work never shies away from an existential throbbing wound. “There are a couple major subjects on the record. From what I can tell\, there’s really dark and then light\,” she says\,” It really is reflective of a very difficult period of divorce. Then\, after that\, it’s meeting somebody new and amazing. And so you hear certain songs about this new love.”\nA midwinter celebration of songwriting and storytelling\, and flagship partner of Fredericton FROSTival\, Shivering Songs hosts internationally renowned artists in historic and intimate spaces throughout Downtown Fredericton\, on the unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik people.\n———————————————————————-\nNotes on Accessibility:\nShivering Songs is actively working to improve festival accessibility We welcome all feedback and encourage you to reach out with any questions\, comments\, or concerns.\nAt this time in all venues we strongly encourage masking and sanitizing.\nTicket Refund Policy:\nTicket buyers can request a refund (up to 48 hours before performance) with one exception\, the payment processor will withhold a 10% processing fee. Last summer was our bussiest yet until tragedy struck when our bass player and great friend Nick Holland was tragically killed on his way home from a music festival we played. He died in the flooding trying to rescue others. We have since regrouped and recruited Dan to try and fill Nicks shoes and get the band back in the road since that was Nicks favorite place to be.\nWe are from Halifax but play often in New Brunswick and have a great fan base there. We are really excited to return to Fredericton and possibly Moncton in August to open for Green Jelly on their tour. We have a sound that keeps everyone moving and a lead singer who takes command of his audience. If you choose us to participate\, we will bring it 100 %.\nBand Members: Allen Byng (guitar/vocals)\, Justin Wheeler (lead guitar)\, Dean Robinson (drums)\, Dan Kelly (bass).\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/436563162143521/

SUMMARY:Living Roots- Free to Grow (Album release)/Black Suit Devil/Noelle Frances/Josh Ritchie
DESCRIPTION:Our festival kick-off show will feature an album release performance by Fredericton’s Free to grow\nBlack Suit Devil at 7 PM\nNoelle Frances at 7:45 PM\nJosh Ritchie at 8:20 PM\nFree to Grow at 9 PM\nAdvanced tickets $10/At the door $15/Free with festival pass\nhttps://locarius.io/events/661/living-roots-kick-off-show-with-free-to-grow-album-releaseblack-suit-devilnoelle-francesjosh-ritchie\nFestival passes\nhttps://locarius.io/events/566/living-roots-music-festival-2024-festival-pass\nFormed in 2014\, Fredericton’s Free to Grow won the Stingray Rising Star Award at the Fredericton Harvest Festival in 2015. Our songwriter was the recipient of the 2023 JL Music Composer Award. \nThe band has performed at over 40 festivals/events/venues throughout New Brunswick including in Bathurst\, Miramichi\, Moncton\, Sussex\, Gagetown\, Fredericton\, Saint John and Saint Andrews. Our original rock music is heavily influenced by “classic rock” and our songs have charted in the UK\, France\, Germany\, Spain\, South Africa\, Australia and the US and Canada. We have released 3 full length studio albums plus a live album and a fourth studio album is being released on June 5.\nJosh Ritchie is a born performer. Ever since he could stand he’s had a guitar in his hands and songs in his bones. Now a captivating performer\, Ritchie commands the stage with the confidence of a seasoned front man. From the minute the kid walks on stage it’s obvious he was meant to be there\, serving audiences larger-than-life\, stadium-rock energy at every show.\n Ritchie describes himself as an “impressionist singer-songwriter\,” likening the principles of his craft to those of the impressionist painters of the19th century. He doesn’t spoon-feed you a linear story but rather makes an impression of a feeling or a memory\, creating a unique connection with each and every listener. His music is both ambitious\, bold and big enough to fill a whole room but at the same time technical and refined when you take a closer look.\n As a young and ambitious person of colour\, Ritchie quickly became fascinated with the relationship between art and activism. Growing up\, he was influenced by bands and artists that weren’t afraid to make a statement with their art and he strives to do the same himself. In 2021 Ritchie put this into practice releasing a self-titled EP about his experiences growing up BIPOC in rural Ontario.\n His second studio album Love at the End of the World\, which further explored these themes\, had a sold out launch event at Lee’s Palace in Toronto and went on to obtain attention throughout North America through such outlets as The CBC\, Cashbox Radio\, Canadian Beats\, Record World International\, Volatile Weekly and many more.\nNoelle Frances is a folk singer-songwriter\, harmonizer\, creative collaborator currently living in Deshkan Ziibi/ London ON.\nInspired by the storytelling that exists in the diverse genre of folk music Noelle writes in a way that is simple\, honest and quick to connect to. Noelle is a witty and charismatic performer who draws in the audience with her joy. She meshes a lighthearted presence and stage banter with emotionally charged\, uplifting and sometimes haunting songs. Lyrically she taps into the angst and beauty of life. Each song has a soul and largely speaks to the resiliency of human beings.\nNoelle is part of a self managed\, internationally touring band “The Pairs” and also performs as a solo act. Noelle has opened for acts like Irish Mythen\, Kim Churchill\, Kellie Loder\, Jim Bryson\, and The Brown Hawking Stanley Trio. With The Pairs Noelle has had the opportunity to play many iconic folk festivals like Mariposa\, Summerfolk\, Hillside\, Calgary Folk Fest\, Rocky Mountain Folks Fest\, and many more!\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1099883661254096/

We are finally able to bring Montreal Ska outfit K-Man & the 45’s to town\nWith support from some NB greats\nDoors at 8 PM\nRed cardinal at 9 PM\nMesse at 10 PM\nK-Man & the 45’s at 11:00\nMonteith at 12:30\nTickets $10 adv/$15 door/festival pass\nhttps://locarius.io/events/673/living-roots-k-man-the-45smonteithmesseabsolution-at-broken-record\nFestival pass\nhttps://locarius.io/events/566/living-roots-music-festival-2024-festival-pass\nCall it what you want\, we call it an SKA PARTY! Straight from Montreal\, K-Man & the 45s has been an important member of the ska scene for several years. In 2011\, they released their debut album entitled Got Me Movin’ as well as their first music video for the song The Red Guy Always Win. They then hit the road and played all over Canada. Word spread quickly that as soon as these guys get on stage\, the audience goes crazy! Is it due to the rock sound they inject into their ska? Is it the volume and intensity of the band that takes hold of the crowd? Is it the sense of urgency that emanates from the group? Anyway\, the band gives so much on stage that even the uninitiated ska will be hooked! Often heard on K-Man & the 45s shows: “Wow I didn’t think I’d ever like ska!”\nMESSE is a hard-hitting\, groovy and stoner sound. They combine their visceral riffs and rhythms with the French language and have a particular attraction to the color purple. They put on an energetic show where you can jump\, scream\, sweat and feel young and alive. Wanting to put a firm foot in the industry from the start\, they launched their debut EP “Connemara PL” in May 2021\, a self-produced project in a home studio. Since then\, they have performed on New Brunswick’s underground stages\, played in a few festivals and were also winners of the Gala de la Chanson de Caraquet. In 2024\, MESSE unveils “J’mettrai le feu” an EP of 5 songs\, a more ambitious project with very “in your face” sounds. It’s a big collage of influences where we find ourselves as much in the era of fringes and bell bottoms as that of flannels and capped boots.\nRed Cardinal is an Alternative Rock Band from Saint John\, New Brunswick. Their sweet sounds will leave you nostalgic for the early 2000’s Indie Rock Scene!\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/431042382672461/

SUMMARY:Living Roots- Brent Mason Band/Rick Sparkes & The Enablers at Khrome
DESCRIPTION:These two prolific songwriters will bring their wonderful bands for a full evening of song.\nDoors at 6:30 PMRick Sparkes & the Enablers at 7 PMBrent Mason Band at 8:15 PM\nTickets $10 advanced/$15 at the door/Festival passhttps://locarius.io/…/living-roots-brent-mason-bandrick…\nFestival passeshttps://locarius.io/…/living-roots-music-festival-2024…\nBrent Mason rolled back into Saint John NB in the spring of ‘92\, after several years roaming North America in his best imitation of Jack Kerouac\, riding his thumb and working carnival midways in Canada and the US. With a fistful of songs born out of an ‘On The Road’ ethos\, and a burning desire\, Brent recorded his first ‘singer/songwriter’ album. A true early indie effort\, Head for the High Ground set a long and vital career in motion. Brent performs innovative original music with insightful powerful lyrical content. In Spring 2020\, Brent will release his 11th album\, ‘Fireflies’\, continuing a commitment to honest\, provocative and often beautiful songs that has earned him international respect. He’s been called “the David Adams Richards of New Brunswick songwriters” by Brent Staeben\, Artistic Director of The Harvest Jazz and Blue Festival.Brent has been nominated for and has won several East Coast Music Awards and Music New Brunswick awards including Folk Artist of the Year\, Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. He is also the youngest recipient of the Stompin’ Tom Award for his contributions to Atlantic Canadian music traditions. In winter 2020\, Brent went on his 3rd Home Routes tour in support of his record in British Columbia. It’s a testament to his significant songwriting and storytelling abilities that Brent has been chosen 3 times for this coveted\, juried circuit. Brent has also toured across Canada\, the UK and Beijing.Brent is regularly invited to local stages including Harvest Jazz and Blues\, Stanfest and many other festivals and music events in the region. In his hometown Saint John\, his Wednesday nights are legend\, hosting O’Leary’s Open Mic Night. 25+ years at this regular gig has earned him the moniker “Godfather of the Saint John Music Scene”. He’s co-written several recorded songs with award winning artist\, Jessica Rhaye\, and conducts songwriting workshops in schools throughout the province.Brent is also a published writer and filmmaker whose conceptual mini-series “Grave Concerns” was picked up by CBC and broadcast nationally. These artistic “crop rotation” techniques into other genres finds Brent working on stories and word craft that informs his writing across the board. After 10 albums and thousands of performances\, Brent is a unique performer\, combining humour\, spontaneity and intriguing\, compelling storytelling. Brent’s shows are entertaining and memorable; he takes audiences on a wild ride from tender sweetness and a deft touch with troubled characters\, wry observations on politics\, to spitting anger at the unjust forces that twist our world.\nOriginally from Kennebecasis Valley in New Brunswick\, Canada\, Rick moved to Prince Edward Island in 2003 where he has worked as a writer\, a musician\, and a teacher. Since 2017\, Sparkes has released four full length albums (three as Rick Sparkes + The Enablers and one under the pseudonym Hazen Halls) and one EP\, all of which blend elements of folk rock\, poetry\, and harmony in ways that are both innovative and familiar. As a writer\, his poetry\, creative non-fiction\, and short fiction have received recognition through the Island Literary Awards and the CBC Poetry Prize shortlist. As a songwriter\, Sparkes’ albums have received critical acclaim across Canada and have been nominated for a number of awards including the 2022 Group Recording of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards for his album Pleasure in the Pathless Woods.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/385591784400031/
