Mark will read from Felt\, and chat with Julia Wright about the novel. \nIn Felt\, a family’s history is woven\, unravelled\, and rewoven into a tapestry spanning three generations. The novel follows museum curator Matthew Reade as he navigates career pressures\, marriage struggles\, and his mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. After Matt returns to the Maritimes to help Penelope move into long-term care\, the pair discuss their family’s murky  past. As his mother’s memory declines\, he’s left to wonder what is real and what has been rewritten by the disease?\nMark Blagrave is a fiction writer from Saint Andrews\, Brunswick. His first novel\, Silver Salts\, was shortlisted for the 2009 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Novel and the 2009 Margaret and John Savage First Book Award (Atlantic Book Awards). His a second novel\, Lay Figures\, was published in 2020 and longlisted for the Dublin Literary Award. Blagrave’s short stories have been published regularly in leading Canadian literary journals\, including The New Quarterly and The Fiddlehead\, and his plays have been produced professionally and in university theatres.\nThis event will take place in Oland Hall room 104. The Juno award winning producer\, composer\, guitarist and globetrotting performer’s latest album is the best evidence yet of his truly unique musical vision and is the sound of him\, literally\, bringing it all back home.\nA native of the island of Newfoundland\, off the east coast of Canada\, Duane grew up exposed to the island’s mélange of cultural influences and his development as a guitarist reflects that. After graduating from the Jazz Studies program at St. FXU with honours\, Duane spent several years studying contemporary music composition at the Conservatoire International de Paris and at the Conservatoire National de Region in Marseille\, France.\nHis discography starts with the release of his debut solo CD\, simply titled\, Duane Andrews (2004)\, which led to the multiple award winning Crocus (2006)\, then Raindrops (2008)\, which features a collaboration with the Atlantic String Quartet and two albums with Cape Breton master fiddler Dwayne Côté\, Dwayne Côté and Duane Andrews (2010) and The Empress (2012).\nOther notable collaborations include Charlie’s Boogie (2013) with bluegrass guitarist/singer/songwriter extraordinaire Craig Young which evolved into Fretboard Journey (2016) with the addition of fellow Newfoundland guitarists Sandy Morris and Gordon Quinton. Joined by Klarka Weinwurm and Try It Again Pierce\, this all ages show is going to be a treat!\nMarch 29\nDoors 8pm\nAll ages!\n$10 advance/$15 at the door\nAccessibility\nHaven Music Hall is a street-level small music venue without fixed seating. This show is combination standing and seating room only. Our entrance exterior is a 34″ wide door that has a small lip/step up from the street. Once inside\, our entrance vestibule has three steps up into the space with an interior entrance opening of 70″. We have two single-use washrooms with toilets. If you’d like more information about accessing our space please email abigail@havenmusichall.com.\nSafer Spaces Policy/Code of Conduct\nHaven Music Hall (HMH) is committed to ensuring a safer show experience for musicians\, audiences\, staff\, and volunteers.
