SUMMARY:Community Conversation - Heteronormative Media Bias in the Changes to Policy 713
DESCRIPTION:**Virtual participation will be available – we will share the Team’s Meeting invite link to this event page on the day of the event.**\n—\nJoin us on Sunday\, May 19th\, 2024 from 11AM to 12PM at Imprint Youth Association (224 York St.\, Fredericton\, NB) for a guided community conversation on the heteronormative media bias in the coverage of Policy 713 changes.\nWhat is heteronormativity? Heteronormativity is of or relating to\, or based on the attitude that heterosexuality is the only normal and natural expression of sexuality. It assumes that identities and experiences – specifically cisgender and heterosexual ones — are presumed to be the “default” in our society.\nMedia plays a vital role in informing communities on nuanced topics such as Policy 713; however\, Western Media coverage of S2LGBTQIA+ topics has historically reinforced white\, cis\, straight\, and heterosexual norms in communities. With the help of queer graduate students and Imprint Youth Association\, we will sit down and talk about the ways New Brunswick media outlets covered Policy 713 changes.\n—-\nWe are requesting that in-person guests please wear a mask to keep everyone safe.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/479114047875987/

DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of acoustic punk from 3 acts that have been touring north America for 20 + years\nDoors at 8 PM\nShow at 9 PM\n$10 at the door\nJon Creeden has been touring around with an acoustic guitar\, sweating\, eating burritos and making friends all over Canada\, the USA and Europe for the last decade. Now with the help of some of those friends Jon Creeden & The Flying Hellfish are kicking it up a notch with their spice weasels\, to bring an even louder and sweatier show to a town near you.\nNick Shrubsole\nStill refusing to let go of his punk rock youth\, this former lead singer of Canadian punk band Broadcast Zero (Rebel Time Records/Stumble Records) offers up some raspy\, hard-hitting acoustic punk folk stories to which you can sing along.\nJon Bowie grew up in a family surrounded by music where kids and adults alike were often called upon to perform at any given moment. After spending spending almost 20 years in Fredericton’s progressive all ages scene playing in bands room 101 and the Missing\, he’s spent the past several years honing in songwriting as folk-noir act The Squaredance Kid\, and with his electric outfit\, the Westerberg Suicides.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/366825045710295/

SUMMARY:Rick & Sean Hutchins and Friends
DESCRIPTION:Help us honour Phyllis Prendergast and make a difference in the city! Join us at Dolan’s Pub on Wednesday\, May 22nd at 7PM to enjoy sounds of Rick & Sean Hutchins and Friends in support of a cause near and dear to our hearts. Cash donations will be collected at the door.\nPhyllis Prendergast left a real impression on our community and we’d like to honour her in a special way. She was a generous\, caring woman and loved Fredericton and worked tirelessly to support the causes close to her heart: Meals on Wheels\, River Jam Fredericton\, Dooryard Arts Festival\, Shivering Songs\, Larlee Creek Hullabaloo\, Medicare Alumni\, but her main love was the Harvest Music Festival for which she was a driving force for 27 years.\n‘Name a Seat’ is the fundraising drive happening now in support of the new Performing Arts Center (Playhouse) which allows for a loved one’s name to be engraved on a seat in the new venue to honour their legacy of helping build a vibrant community. And Phyllis definitely built a loving\, vibrant community! Nothing would make her more proud\, or be more fitting than an engraved seat for herself and a second for her guest since we know she always take a friend along to spread the joy!\nTo keep Phyllis’s memory alive for years & years to come\, we invite you to help us raise the required funds to make this possible!\nTotal required is $2\,000 for the two seats. We’ve currently been able to raise $635 through the GO FUND ME campaign. Any money collected over the required $2\,000 will be donated to the Fredericton Food Bank.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1396355967735391/

SUMMARY:Absolute Losers/Prism Shores/Townie/Owen Steel
DESCRIPTION:Come on out to Haven Music Hall on May 24 to see ABSOLUTE LOSERS\, PRISM SHORES\, TOWNIE\, and OWEN STEEL!!! \nDoors 7pm\nShow 8pm\n19+\n$10+tax advance\, $15+tax at the door! \nSince forming in 2019\, Absolute Losers have earned a reputation for their air-tight live shows that deliver one burst of energy after the next. In August of 2023\, they released their debut album\, “At The Mall\,” a danceable 12-track offering that confronts hardships without taking itself too seriously. On their debut\, the band camouflages pop sensibilities with wiry guitar work\, intertwining bass and drum parts\, and hook-laden\, nonchalant vocals. In their latest efforts\, Absolute Losers shed the camouflage and proudly bear their knack for catchy melodies\, soaring harmonies\, and straight-to-point pop songwriting.\nShaped by the aesthetic sensibilities of vintage UK/New Zealand indie pop\, Montreal’s Prism Shores blend the genre’s jangling guitars and deliberate melodies with traces of shoegaze\, dream pop\, and post-punk\, refracting their influences through a lens distinctly their own. Their sophomore album is due out in January 2025.\nBorn out of postcards and long distance phone calls between friends\, Townie’s trio of songwriters collaborates with a prolific group of musicians across the country\, featuring three insightful and unique voices\, they draw influence from folk revival with a DIY ethos.\nSince 2008\, Owen Steel has written and released various folk / garage sounds under his own name\, as well as with such acts as The Belle Comedians\, Mike Trask\, Dana Sipos\, and Motherhood. He has toured from Newfoundland to the Yukon\, Texas to Sweden and points in between\, appearing at folk festivals\, freak festivals\, basement bars\, soft seaters\, pizza joints and more; By thumb\, boat\, band van and train\, Steel has made his way under the radar and into the ears of a small but mighty group of listeners.\n——–\nAccessibility\nHaven Music Hall is a street-level small music venue without fixed seating. This show is combination standing and seating room only. Our entrance exterior is a 34″ wide door that has a small lip/step up from the street. Once inside\, our entrance vestibule has three steps up into the space with an interior entrance opening of 70″. We have two single-use washrooms with toilets. If you’d like more information about accessing our space please email abigail@havenmusichall.com.\nSafer Spaces Policy/Code of Conduct\nHaven Music Hall (HMH) is committed to ensuring a safer show experience for musicians\, audiences\, staff\, and volunteers. If you see or experience any form of harassment or abuse please inform the bar staff on site. If you experience harassment or abuse and wish to inform us after the fact please email abigail@havenmusichall.com. This email is read by the HMH owners only and any reports of safety violations will be treated as confidential. Abuse and harassment of an audience member\, musician\, HMH staff\, security\, or volunteers will result in immediate ejection from the premises\, potential probationary period\, and potential banning from the premises. As event coordinators we prioritize the experiences of the musicians\, staff\, and audience members\, so patrons who are being disruptive to the performance or bothering staff will be asked to stop their disruptive actions\, and may/or be asked to leave the premises.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/453250937093490/
