SUMMARY:Liberté\, Égalité\, Sororité: French Women Composers in early 1900s
DESCRIPTION:Presented as part of MusicUNB’s Forté series\, Nadia Francavilla highlights the women who were ignored in their time.\nThe French women composers featured in this concert worked in the Impressionist tradition of Debussy and Ravel. In a time when music by women composers was rarely performed\, these trailblazers defied expectations\, making their living from their art. But despite their prolific output–more than 300 pieces performed throughout the early 20th century–history has seen their contributions eclipsed by those of their male counterparts. Nadia Francavilla (violin)\, Karin Aurell (flute)\, Carl Philippe Gioinet (piano) and guests present a bold revival of these important but overlooked works\, including Lili Boulanger’s Cortège and Nocturne; Louise Farrenc’s quintet for piano and strings; and Mel Bonis’ suite op. 59 for flute\, violin\, and piano.\n-Nadia Francavilla\, violin\n-Karin Aurell\, flute\n-Carl Philipe Gionet\, piano\n-Mark Kleyn\, violin\n-Emily Kennedy\, cello\n-Andrew Miller\, bass\nTicket Prices:\n$30 Regular\n$15 Student\n$50 Date Night / Family Pass (2 adults plus up to three children)\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/300934512523507/

SUMMARY:Jazz at Purdy's with Geordie Haley and Friends
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist and composer…teacher and improviser…Geordie Haley returns to where it all began for him musically when he comes home in February for a highly anticipated return to the Delta Fredericton\, where he has performed many times throughout his colorful and creative career as one of Canada’s most respected jazz guitar players.\nWhether it’s exploring various jazz forms or experiments in modern classical themes through electronic sounds\, Haley’s seamless connection of all these influences have allowed him to come up with his own unique style and voice through his instrument.\nJoining Haley for this incredible night of music will be notable local musicians Michael Doherty on keys\, Jason Flores on bass\, and Karl Gans hits the kit\, so you’re guaranteed a night of premiere musicianship while experiencing a true homecoming for one of Fredericton’s finest musical sons.\nMaking this night even more special is\, of course\, the venue itself. For many years DJ Purdy’s was Fredericton’s unofficial home for jazz music\, so to see these performers return to light up this particular stage\, makes this gig extra special for jazz lovers in the city.\nDoors open at 6:30PM. Show at 7:00PM.\n$20 in advance. $25 at the door.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/7408222455888935/

SUMMARY:Danger Cats Comedy LIVE at the Delta Fredericton! Hard R! Brett Forte\, Uncle Hack and Sam Walker!
DESCRIPTION:Tickets on Sale now!\nDanger Cats Live in Fredericton!\n📅 Thursday February 22nd\n⏰️7pm doors at 6pm\n💸 $35 (taxes incl.)\nPurchase on line here—–>\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/the-danger-cats-comedy-tour-live-at-the-delta-fredericton-hard-r-tickets-743210912847?aff=oddtdtcreator\nor text 506-647-8338 to pay by etransfer.\n🔥THE FELLAS ARE BACK🔥\nBrett Forte\, Uncle Hack and Sam Walker\nThe travelling circus hits the road once again to terrorize towns across NORTH AMERICA\, DC comedy is locked and loaded ready to give reason why Bill C-11 was passed in Canada.\nHard R! You will not be refunded if you walk out!\nIn an age when saying the ‘wrong’ thing is often vilified\, this unique comedy show celebrates the darkest corners of what is funny. Brett Forte\, Sam Walker and Uncle Hack will bring tried-and-true alongside brand-new material\, to life\, or just as good\, to death! The Danger Room will encourage the crowd to reward or deride the comedian’s offerings and the same is offered right back to the crowd. Earn the respect and bask in the glory\, or die a thousand deaths and become the story.\nThe Danger Room is Edmonton’s most X-Rated comedy show and has gone to impressive lengths to ensure that attendees are in for a night they won’t forget. It’s the only show in the province that uses locking phone bags\, meaning there are fewer distractions (and no recordings) for the audience. This also keeps the context of the comedy intact\, a point that Forte says has strengthened the appeal of the show.\nBrett Forte headlines March 26th. He’s been featured on Just For Laughs\, The Hollywood Comedy Festival and most notably\, he’s been banned from the CBC.\nAlso on the show: Sam Walker\, a previous 5-time Roast Battle Champion who is banned from the entire country of Sweden and Uncle Hack\, the creator of Danger Cats\, the Mayor of Alberta and the current Roast Battle Champion of Canada.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1059675442061190/

SUMMARY:Connor Fox - Album Release Show
DESCRIPTION:Tickets are limited and go on sale Friday\, December 15th at 10AM\n$20 advance and $25 at the door (if any left!)\nThe Hypochondriacs guitarist\, Connor Fox will be fronting his own band at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre on February 29th\, in support of his debut release\, Music Room. A show that the young guitarist was quick to observe\, ‘could only happen once every four years’.\nForming into words\, some worthy points of praise to illuminate the unique talents of this young slinger can be a humbling exercise. In the search for the colorful verbiage that does him proper justice\, the praise tends to careen off into embarrassingly gushy territory. However\, make no mistake\, it’s all true.\nAs a musician Fox comes armed with a lot of tools in his belt–yes\, he has the ability to shred with the best of them\, but also\, when needed\, he can maturely shift to playing in the moment\, giving whatever is required of him. His seasoned tastes and sense of subtlety betray someone of only 23 years of age\, but Connor comes across as wise\, both in his demeanor and his guitar playing\, which he has been doing since he was old enough to hold one. Stylistically\, whether it’s capturing the fire and passion of a Stevie Ray Vaughn solo or the nuanced\, creative impulses of Jerry Garcia\, his two primary influences\, Connor is a force.\nSince 2019\, Connor has been developing his chops as lead guitarist for one of the Maritimes favourite live bands\, The Hypochondriacs. This opportunity has not only given Connor the chance to hone his craft\, but also play major stages as close to home as Fredericton’s Harvest Music Festival\, and as fabled as Austin’s SXSW. It also allowed him to ride shotgun during their songwriting process. It’s safe to say that he took a lot of notes\, because this fall marked the release of Connor’s solo debut—the album we celebrate on Feb 29th.\nWhile remaining a member of The Hypochondriacs\, but taking advantage of some downtime\, Connor earnestly began working on the material that would make up Music Room; a set of songs that would represent his creativity as a songwriter up until the present\, some of the material dating back to when he was first learning the instrument.\n‘I really went into this with little\, or no\, expectations–I just wanted to get those songs out there\, and get the ball rolling\,’ added Connor.\nMusic Room is a sprawling 10 song effort\, which throws light toward his wide range of influences and styles\, but what has many people talking\, is the strength of Connor’s vocals. He not only performs and produces the tracks that make up the album\, he confidently delivers vocals to the effort as well.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/371671622022294/
