With a deep-rooted love for the guzheng\, Charlotte has spent years learning and exploring the rich musical traditions of this ancient Chinese instrument.\nThe guzheng\, also known as the Chinese zither\, has a history that spans over 2\,500 years. Originating during the Warring States period\, the instrument has evolved from a simple five-stringed zither to the sophisticated 21-stringed instrument commonly seen today. Renowned for its ethereal and resonant sound\, the guzheng has played a vital role in Chinese music\, often associated with court music\, folk traditions\, and contemporary compositions. Its unique sound is created by plucking the strings with a combination of finger techniques and movable bridges\, allowing for a wide range of expressive possibilities.\nBorn and raised in Southeast China\, Charlotte began studying the guzheng from a very young age. Under the guidance of guzheng musician杨始德\, she developed a profound understanding of both the technical and expressive aspects of the instrument. Charlotte’s dedication and skill were recognized when she obtained the Grade 10 certification (previously Performance Certificate) from the Xinghai Conservatory of Music. Charlotte’s performances are characterized by intricate melodies\, dynamic rhythms\, and a soulful connection to the music.\nAlthough Charlotte is an amateur\, she has performed at numerous venues and events\, including TEDxUNB\, earning accolades for her skill and artistry. These experiences have allowed her to share her love for the guzheng with a wider audience and continue to grow as a musician.\nBeyond performing\, Charlotte is passionate about promoting the art of guzheng and sharing its rich history with others. DESCRIPTION:On Thursday August 1st\, we are continuing our Tony’s Music Box Piano Room Series with Marty & Cynthia Hall!\nAbout:\nMarty Hall\nA seasoned musical veteran with influences from the Beatles\, Gordon Lightfoot\, Haggard and Jones\, CSNY\, The Eagles and others too numerous to mention. During the 70s and 80s Marty toured across Canada and parts of the US\, playing drums\, guitar\, bass and singing with various bands and as a solo performer.\nCurrently working as musical director and backup vocal co-ordinator for NB Country Showcase\, and playing drums and vocals in a local psychedelic 60s band. Also working as a solo performer and duet with wife Cynthia.\nCynthia Hall\nCynthia spent 10 years as a backup vocalist and featured performer as part of the NB Country Showcase band. Her main influences are Dolly Parton\, Carly Simon\, Eva Cassidy and Linda Ronstadt\, to name a few.
