SUMMARY:Six Week Class: An Introduction to Drawing
DESCRIPTION:This hands-on six week class will equip students with a wide range of drawing strategies and will get them ready to start making masterpieces of their own. This course is great for students looking to build general skill sets that can be transferred to all sorts of arts and drawing styles. Students will use pen or pencil on paper as their medium and will leave each class with a new piece of work in their portfolios.\nEach lesson will start with a short intro to drawing theory followed by exercises and time to apply what they’ve learned directly onto works of their own. Topics of study will include lighting\, general composition\, and perspective theories. The class will focus on developing skills in drawing features and elements that help bring portraits to life\, such as posture/ eye and facial expressions. Once the six weeks are through the students will have everything they need to step into the world of drawing with confidence and a personal style of their own.\nSix Week Class: Tuesdays April 9 – May 14\, 2024. 5-6:45 p.m.\nAbout the Instructor:\nTiziana a Service Designer who is passionate about storytelling through images and art. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 14 at 6 PM: Enjoy a four-course Italian meal created by Chef Michelle Hooton at Italian by Night\, inspired by four beloved Saint John artists’ paintings brought to the restaurant from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery!\nThis evening event will consist of a talk by the Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s Manager of Collections and Exhibitions\, John Leroux\, who will give us insight into the selected artworks. Chef Michelle will also tell us how each painting inspired her to create her four delicious courses.\nThis is an excellent opportunity to engage with artworks from the Beaverbrook and learn more about the history of Saint John as well as the four artists who have been chosen for this exciting evening. The artworks chosen for inspiration for this meal were created by the following artists:\n– Miller Brittain\n– Fred Ross\n– Jack Humphrey\n– Rosamund Campbell\nTickets are limited! DESCRIPTION:Watercolour is a graceful medium\, as light emanates from beneath the surface\, connecting the painter and viewer to the multiple layers of translucent colours. This course will teach basic techniques specific to watercolour\, as well as the fundamental principles that relate to all great design and composition. You will have the opportunity to put these principles and techniques into practice\, so they start to become intuitive. This is an introductory course; however you can work to your own skill level if more advanced.\nThis is a full day workshop running 10-4 p.m. with an hour break for lunch.\nWorkshop supply kits are available from the instructor for $25.00 (paid on the day of the workshop) and include:\n• Watercolour Paper 140lb. cold press\, 2\n• 2 sheets + 2 sheets Watercolour paper 90lb.\n• Colouring card (bakery art)\n• Palette: warm and cool versions of red\, blue and yellow\, plus black and white\,\nprofessional level paint : Grumbacher or Windsor Newton\, given in class from tubes\n• Assorted colours 2 tubes of water colour tube paint\n• Brushes: round\, flat and angle + foam brush\n• Drawing pencil\n• White magic eraser\n• Mixing palette/plate\n• 8”x10” Acid free Matt for a 5”x7” painting\n• Foam core board\n• roll of painters tape (green) • Instructional notes\nIf bringing your own supplies\, there will be an additional charge of $10.00 (paid on the day of the workshop) for notes\, colouring card and a required acid-free Matt.\nAbout the Instructor:\nJane is a designer and painter with a penchant for watercolour. SUMMARY:Liminal Presence
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to present “Liminal Presence” a joint exhibition featuring two prominent local artists\, Greg Charlton and Jared Peters.\nJoin us for the opening reception on Thursday May 9th at 5:30 PM. Exhibition runs until May 30th.\nGreg Charlton is a Fredericton-based visual artist who concentrates on themes of transformation and change – via drawings and paintings of architecture and infrastructures. His practice has encompassed\, along with drawing and painting\, site-specific interventions\, and experiments into perceptual phenomenon.\nGreg’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and can be found in many private and several public Art collections\, including the Canada Council for the Arts\, the University of New Brunswick\, and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. He has been awarded project grants from the Canada Council for the Arts\, the Ontario Arts Council\, and the New Brunswick Arts Board. Greg holds a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD U) and presently teaches Drawing and Design at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (NBCCD).\nJared Peters is a contemporary artist concerned with narratives of painting\, history\, and power. He holds a BA from UNB (2005)\, a BFA from NSCAD University (2010)\, and an MFA from the University of Western Ontario (2014). A recipient of numerous grants and awards\, Peters was shortlisted for the prestigious RBC Canadian Painting Competition in 2011. His work can be found in private and public collections across Canada. In addition to his painting practice\, Peters has worked extensively as an art educator and organizer. He currently lives in Fredericton\, New Brunswick\, where he works as the Dean of the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1437275926904873/
