SUMMARY:Documentary Screening- The South by Andrea Ramolo
DESCRIPTION:Doors at 2 PMScreening at 3 PMEntry by donation ($10 suggested) or festival pass\nFollowing the death of her matriarch and beloved grandmother\, The South follows Italian-Canadian recording artist and dancer Andrea Ramolo to the Salento in southern Italy to explore the rich history of its folk music and dance. Director Giuseppe Marco Albano captures Andrea as she uncovers the cultural phenomenon of the tarantate\, the evolution of the pizzica\, and the healing rituals of the south\, and the Salento in particular. The film also follows her and Italian world music band Kalàscima behind-the-scenes as they embark on the recording of a new collaborative Italian album which takes a modern approach to traditional music and honours Andrea’s connection to the land and to her ancestors. Throughout her journey\, Andrea learns from the locals\, like pizzica dancers Lucia Scarabino\, Stefano Campagna\, and Mattia Politti\, the famous polyphonic singers le sorelle Gaballo of Nardò\, and New Jersey based tamburello mentor Alessandra Belloni\, among others. Andrea uses the healing traditions of the past and the south to grieve and heal from her recent loss. As a first generation Italian—Canadian woman\, Andrea is given this unique opportunity to learn from the south\, from the past\, and from the charming and colourful characters she encounters along the way. From legends of spider bites to the healing power of music and dance\, Andrea brings her newfound knowledge of southern Italian tradition back to Canada in a unique and captivating way.\nBIO DIRECTOR:Giuseppe Marco Albano is an award-winning Italian director\, screenwriter and producer. SUMMARY:Are we there yet? Tour- Bryce Clifford & Brother Brisco
DESCRIPTION:These two buddies are teaming up again to impose their songs on the East coast\, get out and show them our hospitality. Buy em a drink would ya?\nMusic at 8 PM\ntips accepted (Gas is expensive out here)\n‘Bryce Clifford & Brother Superior’ put the song back at the centre of rock n roll. With a decade of playing music in Austin Texas\, dubbed the ‘Live Music Capital of the World’\, Clifford’s ‘indie-rock’ background broadened to include deeper traditions of folk\, blue-grass\, honky-tonk\, old school soul … name it – you might hear it. That said\, a Bryce Clifford & Brother Superior set is dominated with driving melodic rock songs that get stuck in your head\, are played with joy\, and have a touch of nostalgia that feels right and hits home.\nBryce returned to Canada in 2021 and started a northern chapter of ‘Brother Superior’ in Hamilton Ontario\, enlisting four of the city’s most seasoned players: Andrew Marshall (bass)\, Robin Pirson (drums)\, Greg Brisco (piano) and (CJ Altmann) pedal-steel.\nThe group began a weekly residency following lockdowns and are currently building a loyal local following\, as well as honing a well-greased and high-energy live show.\nA little bit about Brisco:\nGreg Brisco was born in the heart of the Ottawa Valley. However\, he has called Hamilton home for the past three decades. He’s been actively playing in the city of Hamilton for the past 20 years. You may have seen him over the years play with many local acts like Ginger St. James\, The Dinner Belles\, Junkhouse\, Teenage Head and Tongue Fu and many that have just been passing through the city like Robert Gordon\, Albert Bouchard (of Blue Oyster Cult) and Peter Stroud (of Sheryl Crow) to name a few.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/446438884527193/
