Ecstatic Dance/ Movement
Since our first ecstatic dance event in Saint John was a great success, why not do it again?!
Join us for an ecstatic dance/ movement event in the heart of Saint John, New Brunswick, where we’ll come together to celebrate movement, music, and community.
Date: Tuesday April 16th, 2024
Time: 7pm – 9pm **Please arrive a few minutes early or on time so that we can all start together.**
Location: The Kent Theatre, 24 Coburg St, Saint John, NB
What is Ecstatic Dance?
Ecstatic dance is more than just movement; it’s a mindful practice, a sacred journey of self-discovery through dance and music. Unlike traditional dance settings, there are no choreographed routines, no judgments, and no expectations. Participants are invited to let go of their inhibitions, surrender to the music, and move intuitively from the depths of their souls. In other words, ecstatic movement is a form of self-expression.
Who is this for?
All bodies looking to explore ecstatic movement.
What to Expect:
•Diverse Music: Diverse playlist spanning various genres and tempos, from ambient sounds to tribal beats, allowing you to explore a spectrum of emotions and sensations.
•Safe Space: This event is a judgment-free zone where you can express yourself authentically without fear of criticism. We celebrate diversity and inclusivity, welcoming people from all backgrounds and walks of life. There will be ZERO tolerance for discrimination of any kind.
•Community Connection: Join fellow dancers in a shared journey of self-expression and liberation. Connect with like-minded individuals and forge meaningful connections on and off the dance floor.
Structure of the Event:
•Opening Circle: The group will come together and talk about what ecstatic movement is, ask questions, play a little get to know you game, and review the event’s guidelines for consent and courtesy.
•Dance/ Movement: The music will last about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The tempo and energy of the music will take you through a warm up to cool down journey to connect with your body and move as you wish. This time is for you to utilize as you see fit.
•Closing: After the music ends we will regroup with everyone and share a few words about our experience. Spend some time connecting with other participants if you wish or take quiet time with yourself.
•Facilitator: There will always be a facilitator present to offer insight, direction, structure, and to hold the integrity of the container. Please feel free to tap the facilitator on the shoulder at any time for assistance or otherwise.

How to Join:
•Tickets: The tickets are on a sliding scale $10-$20. Purchase by sending e-transfer to carley.schandlen@yahoo.ca or CASH at the door. (there is a limited capacity – pre purchase is advised)
•Dress Code: Comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement.
•Bring: Water bottle, towel (if you sweat), sock feat/ indoor shoes, and an open mind ready to dance!
•Arrival: Please arrive a few minutes early so that we can all start together.
•Considerations: There will be no talking or phone use permitted in the dance space. Please step outside for these things as to respect the other participants.
•Scent Free Space: Please refrain from wearing anything scented in the space.
* DANCING & CONSENT *
Enjoy your own personal dance or spark up creative movement with others, if there is mutual agreement. If you wish to dance with another, tune into their body language that will clearly give you a ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Respect that a person’s willingness to dance can change from moment to moment. At any time you, or the person you are dancing with, may choose to end the encounter by moving away, or bowing with hands in prayer.

– there are stairs up to the front doors of the venue
