The landscape of Saint John in 1783
May 18, 2024 @ 2:15 pm - 5:15 pm
When the Loyalists arrived in Saint John, the landscape was little changed since the ice age 10,000 years earlier. It was a combination of rock and swamp, and largely inhospitable to settlement. Geologist Bill Gardiner will share the conditions that had to be overcome to build the city, and why many chose to find places to live that were more agreeable for settlement, while others chose to remain and build.
Hosted by the Saint John Regional Library in Market Square.
